Hi everyone. We know the Safe City trial period has started, and we’re all trying to contribute as much as we can to add all the cameras at key intersections. If you see any that haven’t been added, feel free to report them and leave a comment about the cameras.

I’ve noticed that in Skopje over the last 3 days, many incorrectly marked cameras have been added to the app, specifically:
- Cameras in places where there are none — they don’t exist
- Cameras marked as Speed or Speed and Red Light cameras, when they are actually surveillance cameras that do not measure speed or detect “red light” violations.
It wouldn’t be a bad idea to pay a bit more attention to the reliability of the data, because by recording incorrect positions and details, we are making the app unusable.

As you have noticed, in recent days, cameras have been added to key intersections across Skopje based on active reports from fellow Wazers. We try to pay attention to all reports and treat them as completely reliable and accurate, which is not always the case. Of course, there are also reports that are fake, partial, and incomplete. For several years now, the system of cameras for automatic traffic regulation throughout the city has been operational to prevent congestion and queues during peak hours and to maintain that “green wave” through the city. These same cameras that were already installed are also, among other things, for monitoring and taking corrective measures in the field of safety.
There is a Discord server where we all communicate more easily, but I should also mention here that besides cameras for running red lights and speeding, there are also cameras that register seatbelt use, mobile phone use, headlights being on day/night, stopping or parking in prohibited places, improper lane changes in roundabouts or intersections, failing to yield to pedestrians at crosswalks, etc. I agree that some are not appropriately marked, but that doesn’t mean that cameras which are installed but not meant for speed measurement or red lights aren’t meant for registering the aforementioned violations or that they shouldn’t be marked on those same roads. All cameras should be reviewed, perhaps first by location and then by the function they are intended for. These are informational for drivers regarding checkpoints on a road, just like other notifications for speed, etc.
If you have any suggestions, proposals, or criticism, we will review them all and approach them constructively.

You can report from the app and leave a comment there regarding their location.
We review all reports and take appropriate action. If there are no cameras at a certain location, they will be added.
If you are unable to leave a comment at the same time you send the report, simply reporting is enough. We will then contact you through the app, and you can tell us the details.

Every camera should be labeled according to its exact function. Currently, due to increased interest, all possible cameras are being marked as speed cameras — this makes the application irrelevant, and interest in it could soon be completely lost.
And just to add, there is no need to add “phantom” cameras that do not exist (even if they will in the future). When the cameras are installed, they will be added.
Phantom cameras are not being placed; instead, cameras are added at locations reported by fellow users of the app.
These days we have many new users, most of whom do not know how to use the app and may be making mistakes when reporting cameras across Skopje. They see a traffic regulation camera but report it as a speed camera, etc.
If you use the app actively, please report which locations have “phantom” cameras and we will correct them with the proper ones.
The camera dilemma is real. I’m pretty sure the blue cameras from the company TATL are the only ones that are truly reliable and functional for use as red-light cameras. The other cameras along the street are just for local monitoring. A camera must also be specifically positioned behind the traffic light to be usable as a red-light camera. And there are still many intersections in the city where there is a red-light camera on only one side, but on the other side there is no camera, nor is there any mounting for one, which makes the situation very confusing. Honestly, I’m not entirely sure exactly how they do it or why they do it this way. So it will definitely be a mission to get them all on the map. But with the help of our community, Gunner, and the other team members, we should be able to get it done.

I don’t know what logic you’ve been following, but it makes sense to only list cameras that measure speed. Like this, it’s a dysfunctional mess. At the 8-mi Septemvri and Partizanska intersection, there’s a red light and speed cam listed (but there is no speed cam). You stop at a red light anyway; there’s nothing to warn you about. Plus, there are a ton of examples on Waze where surveillance cameras are marked but there are no speed cameras. Who gave you a keyboard to mark things? Until you fix it (if ever), Info Trafic and CamSam are better (completely accurate).
We’re working on it. No one said that the camera can’t be for BOTH red lights AND speed at the intersection when it’s green. According to the documentation, those cameras support both functions.
As for surveillance cameras, we’re currently working on that as well. Feel free to turn off red light camera notifications in the Waze app settings if you don’t want to receive alerts for them. It doesn’t mean that everyone stops at red lights and doesn’t make mistakes like you do.
The same goes for Šampionče in Kisela Voda, a camera is missing.
