For the great tourist vocation of Iceland and to help users to drive in Iceland we added on the map the major tourist attractions.
The position for all the attractions of this list was validated to ensure the best routes to the users.
Much of this comes from the information added by users in last years, often with photos.
To add the landmarks of the sights we followed the following rules:
For the attractions far from a road, we added at end of the road a landmark with a “name of attractions + Parking” and in the description how much far is from the parking area.
Usually we added at the name also the typology, Iceland language is not so easy to use and we think this is an big help to find attractions.
We always used the category (of course only if it was a tourist attraction)
Tourist attraction / Historic Site
and often we added a secondary categorie:
Sea / Lake / Pool - for Lake, Crater Lake, Glacier Lake
River / Stream - for Waterfall
Parking Lot - for end point of a road with an attraction too much far to have a correct route
It’s a great satisfaction to see now on every road “GPS tracks” , also in very remote areas, and finally to see local drivers everyday on the map of Waze. This is a great encouragement to continue the improving, and I’m happy for your opinion.
Thx… but the map is killing me :? but I have a solution  two months of holidays in Iceland I can check the map having a great relax only a bit expensive… sigh
I’m planning a trip to Iceland this september and I just wanted to say here that Giorgio’s work in Iceland is FANTASTIC!!!
The roads are all there, the places too. I was checking the trip around the country thinking I would need to open many URs or else, but no, it’s all there and it’s very well documented!
Thank you for an amazing job!
Also if you need help I’d be happy to provide it, however I feel like you’ve done so much that there isn’t much left to do.
