How do I report an accident/congestion on the opposite carriageway. It’s easy to do it for the direction of travel but we can’t see how to do it the other way.
This used to be a feature of Waze in previous versions, but some time in 2015 Waze started to phase out the ability to report hazards, traffic, accidents etc on the other side of the road. Their reason? They didn’t really say, but it upset a lot of people. I too was disappointed to see it go as it was useful for reporting objects such as tree branches on the other side of a country road for example.
I’m sure there was some technical reason why it wouldn’t work properly for all roads, such as reporting traffic on the other side of a motorway, which is technically drawn on the map as two separate one way roads, so how does Waze decide if it’s the other side of the motorway, or another road that happens to run parallel to the motorway? What if the two sides of the motorway split apart for a complicated junction, and there is a considerable number of yards of central reservation between the two sides?
Even though you can’t report accidents, you’ll usually always have the police at an accident scene, and is still possible to report police on the other side. So you could drop a police report, even though it may not appear perfectly on the other side.
Waze may or may not decide to add the feature back if they can overcome the technical challenge, but sadly for now, it’s gone.
Hello…
I have a slightly different question but along the same lines…
If I report something as I’m driving at 60mph, for example a car stopped on the side of the road, where precisely does it drop and show up to other Wazers?
Is the drop position recorded when I first tap the speech bubble in the app, or does it drop when I hit “Send” when I’m maybe 300 yrds further down the road?
Ben,
As soon as you tap the report button that’s where it sends the report from, regardless of how far down the road you’ve travelled. I’ve tried this a few times with a 3rd party app that reports back into WME, so can confirm this is what happens when you send reports.
Regards,
Ian
This is also true of where the client searches for nearby petrol stations. So if you need to update prices, but can’t as you’re driving past (fast road, or tricky bends or whatever), you can hit the report button, and leave that screen open until you get to a safe place. Of course this means you can’t see the next navigation instructions until you close it or otherwise.
Good to know, thanks ![]()
