I’m in the beginning stages of planning a trip to Vegas with my wife for our 20th anniversary. I would love to hear some input from any of you who have been there and what experiences (positive and negative) that you had.
If you could recommend hotels and where to go for buffets, I’m all ears
I’m planning this for the middle of October this year for around 4 days starting on the 9th.
Book your hotel now. It all depends on what you want to do when you go to Vegas. I usually go alone, so I don’t leave the hotel/casino. I spent a weekend in Vegas and didn’t leave Bally’s. I stayed there, I played there, I ate there.
If you haven’t been before, it can be overwhelming. There’s lots to do, so planning now is the best thing to do. See what shows you want to see, the hotels usually have some good deals, and if you sign up for email alerts with the hotels, they’ll send you some deals. I get 2-3 a week from the various hotel/casinos in the city. For example, there’s a 15% off of room before April 30, with Silverton Casino. New York, New York has $47 a night rates, with $50 bar crawl (not sure what that is), but those are a couple of the deals that they email out.
Also, don’t rent a car, unless you’re going to stay at South Point Casino, Bass Pro Shop, Silverton, or the Palms or plan on doing some driving around to the Hoover Dam. Everything you could possibly need will be on the strip. A taxi will run you roughly $15 from the airport to your hotel (as long as you tell him to take you directly there). Once you’re on the strip, there’s the double decker bus that you can take for pretty cheap (I think you can buy a 24 hour pass for $3), there’s the monorail which connects MGM with the Hilton (I think). Fremont St is pretty cool, too.
