Tulsa Metro Street Naming Conventions

All,

I propose the following changes to the way we name streets in the Tulsa Metro and surrounding cities:

  • Abbreviate the second (post-directional) cardinal on all N/S numbered street names. Areas: All.
    Examples:
  • S 161st E Ave
  • S 177th E Ave
  • S 193rd E Ave
  • S 121st E Pl
  • S 177th W Ave
  • N 145th E Ave
  • N 161st W Ave
  • Drop the S(outh) from all E/W numbered street names in the Tulsa Corporate Limits if the street is East of Main. (South of Admiral is obvious as I want to drop the S(outh) only.)
    Examples:
  • E 71st St, Tulsa
  • E 46th St, Tulsa
  • E 98th St, Tulsa
For the E/W naming convention, this only applies to streets within the East segments South of Admiral in Tulsa Corporate Limits (Think the SE quadrant of the city of Tulsa). All other segments, including West Segments South of Admiral in Tulsa Corporate Limits, All segments North of Admiral, and all segments in other cities and counties that utilize the Tulsa naming convention, you should ADD the post directional. In this case, it should be Abbreviated and not spelled out.
    Examples:
  • E 151st St S, Bixby
  • E 37th St S, Broken Arrow
  • E 48th St S, Broken Arrow
  • E 46th St N, Tulsa
  • E 86th St N, Owasso
  • W 21st St S, Sand Springs
  • W 41st St S, Tulsa
  • W 121st St S, Sapulpa
  • W 141st St S, Glenpool

For all the E/W segments, you can substitute Pl, Ct, Cir, Dr, etc. for St.
For all the N/S segments, you can substitute Pl, Ct, Cir, Dr, etc for Ave (Tulsa doesn’t use St for N/S segments).

I have brought this up to the state management and RC’s, and have been told they will “get back to me.” By I haven’t heard anything yet. It’s been a month or longer.

The primary reason I want this is to match the BGS and LGS in all areas. It will also take up less room in the WMA, thus having a much more pleasurable view.

Thank you for your patience in this matter. This is now addressed in this post. https://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=600&t=239125.

BGS signs should always include what the sign actually says (i.e. within Tulsa, include S on US-169 because its included on the sign [abbreviating is OK], however, the street will still be named without).
