Turn off notifications

Can you add a way to turn off all notifications? I have my phone hooked up to my stereo and get real annoyed by all the notifications that can not be turned off.

Examples:
Car on the side or the freeway = I don’t care.
Weather alert for fog = thank you Captain Obvious. I never would have seen that wall of moisture obstructing my view of the road if I wasn’t warned first.
Weather alert for rain = rain clouds move fast morons, weather changes.
Red light cams = don’t run red lights like a dipshit and you won’t need a warning.
Police reports = don’t drive like an idiot and you won’t need a warning.

So can I please get the option to turn them off? I have been using Google Navigation more lately because it seems to be getting on my nerves more now (winter rain doesn’t help). But I overall prefer this app.

Sure, under Settings>map, turn off any notifications that you don’t want to show.

The settings only hides them from the map. You will still get alerts for when you are actually approaching hazards, red light cams and police. It’s the job of each Waze user to hit “not there” if it isn’t a real hazard.

If it looks strange, or I used bad grammar or misspelled anything, it’s my phone’s fault.

This has changed: You now have to go to settings>advanced>show on map. Turn off what you don’t want and then pray it remembers it from day to day. The most annoying? Chit chat. I don’t care and shut up and drive. I bet you were that person who sat at the light after it turned green typing in “whasup?” Moron.

Still getting notifications, still REALLY annoying. Some of them you can’t turn off, like police and ted light cams. They may be there, but I don’t care.

I have everything else turned off fine, like no chit-chat. But as I am listening to my podcasts I still get blasted out of my van when “Police reported ahead” comes up. I also like how I can’t see the map when the red light cam pops up, which I can’t turn off, and I can’t see my upcoming turn.

Really wish Google Navigation was slightly easier, then I could dump Waze.

Yes, that is what I wrote above.

Besides getting Notifications within a given radius, (which are of no real concern to me when I am in Navigation Mode) there needs to be a way to just enable notification if it happens to be on the route that remains to be driven ahead of you because If it’s behind you, it’s already history and useless information.

Another annoying needless display of irrelevant user reports, happens on the Live Map in the waze.com/livemap url in the web browser. The data that scrolls on the screen should be based upon the current map location and zoom level on the screen and not areas you’ve driven near in the past century, or had visited on vacation months ago.

This option is a must. I have a long commute, over 50 miles, so I have my radius set for 50 miles. I don’t need to see 25 pop ups about a cop or slow traffic 45 miles the opposite direction.

As I understand it, the radius that you set refers to the distance from the route that you are navigating, not just the distance from your starting point. (According to the Wiki: “The Event Radius expands to include the area along your route and destination when navigating.”) Thus, if you set your “Events Radius” to 5 miles and take your 50-mile trip to work, you’ll get all events that are reported within 5 miles of every point on your route (not just within 5 miles of your house).

Spil is correct. It should be 5mi from your current location in non-nav and 5mi from route in nav mode.

If it looks strange, or I used bad grammar or misspelled anything, it’s my phone’s fault.

If it is a “must” that Waze report red-light cams and police etc. audibly, can we have the option to change the warning to the pleasant, non-intrusive “We are detecting a slow down…” DING?

Lot of people dont want use WAZE because of these notifications.
They tell me it’s really anoying each time they are stopped on road, pop-up appears with useless informations about other roads…etc.

It is really bad to WAZE, because option 100% Useless but 100% visible !

Absolutely agree that these notifications are annoying beyond belief.

I have the exact opposite problem: I don’t have any audible warning about traps, traffic, cops, whatever. Is it a bug? All I get are pop-ups, quite useless if you have to keep looking at the screen to check if there’s a speed trap ahead.

Yes I’m not alone !!! Please post on my topic about this bug : http://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=27951

Yep they’re real annoying… until they aren’t. Until you get a police trap warning as you come around a blind curve to find a small town that has designed a speed trap for the extra revenue. You don’t have to be a habitual speeder to get caught in some speed traps.

Or until you come around a hill into a sudden fog bank, and resulting massive slow-down that could result in an accident, if not for the warning by Waze that caused you to start slowing before you rounded the hill.

Or that car on the side of the road turns out to be a big rig that didn’t get all the way off the road, or a car that stopped for a flat and then decides to try to pull out in front of you.

Or That weather report that you laughed at because it’s only partly cloudy but then you hit a section that a thunder cell just passed over leaving large pools of standing water for you to hydro-plane in.

Or that red light camera where the city has deliberately lowered the time of the yellow light to create more red-light runners.

And one more on the police, the police reported is one that has someone pulled over, I report those because more likely than not once they finish the ticket they’ll turn the radar gun on and pull the next speeder over without going back to a set point. I also report those because too many officers get injured or killed every year because people aren’t paying attention and crash into their pulled over cars despite the flashing lights and attempt to get safely off the road. If a Waze pop-up saves even one officer by making a driver aware of the potential hazard, it’s worth annoying every single one of you folks complaining about this.

I’ve seen personally seen at least one example of every single one of these instances except the red-light cameras with the short yellows because such cameras are not legal in my state. But the record of cities lowering yellow light times to increase citations is well documented.

We are not complaining about the pop-ups while you’re driving alerting you of something on your path. We are complaining of the notifications when at a red light that float around your region alerting you of a “Car Stopped on Shoulder” 10 miles away on an interstate you’ll never take.

Re-read the first post Jpere, it was all about the notifications that pop-up regardless of when, I addressed his list of pop-ups one by one. The ones that pop-up when you stop at a light don’t use any sound and thus don’t fit the complaint of the OP as he was complaining about the notifications interrupting his music.
