its about how to set up for the German Umweltzone when you have a more than 30 year’s old Diesel.
using Waze on Android.
in Germany it’s allowed to drive in some of the Umweltzone’s if you have a oldtimer.
but not all of them.
i can’t figure out what package i need to select in the Waze app.
i was already told i can use Umweltpakette grün.
but little trying around i found that’s not true. using the information on Greenzone.eu waze is now going tru all zones whiteout warning even if is a no diesel zone. and there oldtimer diesels ar not allowed.
is there a difference package that covers oldtimers in Germany?
Hi Tom,
in short: You need to choose the green badge (“Umweltplakette grün”). German Diesel restrictions aren’t mapped in Waze. Classic cars are exempt from most if not all immissions-related restrictions.
There are only three cities with Diesel vehicle restrictions in Germany. Munich, Stuttgart and Darmstadt. In Munich and Stuttgart Diesel vehicle restrictions apply to the entire Umweltzone but in both cities there are explicit exemptions for classic cars. [1][2]
That is the same statute that affords exemption in Umweltzonen.
Regarding Waze:
All “Umweltzonen” are mapped with their respective restrictions (requiring a yellow or a green badge).
Diesel restrictions aren’t currently mapped in Waze as there is no reliable way to tell the app what type of fuel the car uses and connect that to the passes system and only a small amount of drivers is affected by the restrictions.
