Unadopted Private Road example - advice/clarification please

Here’s a new development of a few houses and an unadopted ‘private road’ that needs mapping:

Should this be classified as a ‘street’, ‘service street’ or ‘private road’?
I realise there’s no impact on routing as it’s a dead-end but I want to be as consistent as possible.

I couldn’t find a definitive answer but the best advice I’ve found was by David Knight on a recent post:

…so ‘street’ then?

I’d draw it as a private road to match the signage.

It’s a cul-de-sac - it’ll only ever be used as a start or finish point so is fine as a street.

It’s OK to use ‘street’ or ‘private’. There is basically no differences in term of navigation in this case. Personally I prefer to use ‘street’. Don’t ask me why. Maybe just a mood recently. If you ask me next year, I may say ‘private’ .

Well, it’s better to give some reasons.

  1. It’s private road but everyone can access to it anyway.
  2. It has its official street name, ‘Hardy Close’.

Thanks all - yes I’m leaning towards Street so
Street 3 Private Road 1

The general view seems to be to leave it as Street unless you need to restrict access for some reason.
