Under Utilized Forum

Hi all,

Here are some interesting facts about this forum:

Total members 1,503,904
Most users ever online was 246 on Tue, 18 Dec 2012
In total there are 74 users online (averagely less than 100 online in recent months)

This forum is so much under utilized, considering its 1.5mil users.
(even if it is reasonable and conservative to consider 50% are dummies, testers, window-shoppers… :D)

Well I read every new thread and posts and let me tell you it’s far from being under-utilized in my view. Doing that keeps me very very busy everyday to keep up with just a fraction of the recent messages in the currently 1,291,938 total forum posts available here.

Wow, solute to you! “Every thread and posts”! That’s good know there are still very dedicated forumers.
Well, what i meant was the engagement of users/editors on this forum, as in not many ppl are actively involved from the large pool.

Indeed, but some people just come here for info and then prefer to only use the app and do nothing else.

Most people only use a forum to complain or display some form of dissatisfaction. A small minority will atest to helping others
I would guess that many do not even know that a forum even exist.

For many of the editing community - we heavily utilize other chat mediums such as Slack, Google Hangouts, Telegram, or other chat mediums and the forum is more of an official place where we can reach outside of that community or use to welcome new members.

With that said, I will say that the forum private message feature is quite used heavily. I as well read many of the new posts - I don’t read every one, mostly those in the languages that I can read (Francais et English) and I don’t read the majority of unlocks unless I see them within one of my areas of management - though with that said, there is still a good usage for the forum - but again, predominately there is much more discussion occurring in the chat (faster, more responsive, and shorter messages!)

I think the forums present a unique way of cataloging the history of waze. As KTCAOP pointed out many other mediums are used every day and allow for quick reactions: unlocks, closures, second opinions on a UR, entertainment/off-topic and education. In fact many of those are often better suited for these other methods, imagine trying to mentoring someone via the forums.

But like I mentioned the forums allow for longer term perspective focused on a topic. Keeping track of how Big Detour Prevention, or Best Continuation evolves, discussing new things like Parking Lot Areas, promotions, local issues all deserve a spot in the forums to help preserve these discussions.

While I do find the forums not the easiest to navigate I do find browsing them quite informative and enjoyable. Not all editors used the forums, but I think all editors benefit from its existence.

That is just impressive. I tip my hat to you.

I forgot to mention that I do it except for country forums (I can’t read most languages in it anyway) and the wiki section. That makes it a tad easier.
