Understanding route section over long distances

In this example 700km trip from Whangarei to Palmerston North

Waze knows your origin and destination then does a calculation on trip distance.

[1] Inside the first ring (Red) “origin” it will asses all roads types and select best route
[2] In the second ring (Green) it will only assess “Primary Streets” and above and select best route
[3] In the third ring (Pink) it will only assess “Minor Highway” and above and select best route
[4] In the third ring it will only assess “Major Highways” and above and select best route

The reverse is used to selecting your destination route

Suggested Distances (We know this table is not accurate for NZ, but used as a guide only)

0-15 km - All road types are allows for routing.
15-20 km - All road types except Streets.
20-30 km - All road types except Streets and Primary streets.
30-200 km - Only Minor, Major, and Freeways.
more than 200 km - only Freeways.

0-16 km (1 miles) - All road types
16 - 160 km (1 - 100 miles) - Primary streets, Minor, Major, and Freeways.
over 160 km (over 100 miles) - only Major, and Freeways.
