There will be a lot of unlocking needed in the whole Lincolnshire area as I have discovered that “Dave2084” has locked all of his work and there’s no way to; connect roads, turns, add road names or anything.
I will provide “permalinks” but it will take forever to describe exact unlock points on the map.
If someone can just unlock everything in sight it would help.
If not, can you just try your best, thanks.
I’ve unlocked some roads near the areas you’ve linked to, though I may have missed some.
If you have problem’s with Dave’s work, you might want to communicate with him directly via PM. You might also want to consider becoming an Area Manager, which will allow you to edit locked roads (though this system may be changing soon).
The reason for locking areas that are complete is to prevent them being damaged by an overzealous map editor as has happened in the past and continues to happen.
You’ll see that between myself and paulfromskeg(2) a lot of the Lincs coastal region have been fully mapped*, I’ve also fully mapped perhaps 50% of all of Lincolnshire which is why it’s a really great place to use Waze. I’m sat here in a hotel in Exmouth and not a single road name or junction has been edited since the basemap import happened (2 years ago?) and it make Waze near unusable.
*of course fully mapped is always a relative term, there’s always more you can do and roads get built/changed all the time, plus to err is human … but my goal is to get Lincolnshire mapped so that I’ve done a first pass of every road by the end of the year (but more like next!)
I can see from your edits you’ve obviously got a LOT of local knowledge and enthusiasm. You sound like great AM material, (find out how to become and AM here) but as Tim suggested please do acquaint yourself with the UK Editing Wiki.
I’ve unlocked Meers Bank and Quebec Rd for you I presume that this is to attach the caravan site access roads you have added.
I can see that the last three segments A1104 - High St between the A52 junction and Quebec Rd are no longer an A road and just a street, I’ve fixed this, though tim had unlocked it anyway.
Yes you’re right, “The Boulevard” is actually “Gibratar Rd”. Interestingly here OSMMC and OS Open data disagree in that one has “Gibratar Rd” joining the A52 and the other has (the real) “The Boulevard” joining it. Which is correct?
Tim has already unlocked this too. What’s the problem with it, I spent maybe 15 minutes looking at it and it seems OK but rather then spend hours scrutinising it it’s probably easier to ask.
Tim has unlocked this too. I’ve not had a chance to check it.
Never a pain, we’re all here to make Waze better for everyone.
If you want instant help why not try the ##WazeUK IRC chat room, there’s at often a UK country manager in there, so hopefully you can get instant advice and unlocks when required.
Check the connections you’ve added for the caravan park access roads on Meers Bank and Quebec Rd as there are now restricted turns so a lot of them will not allow routes.
Just been on holiday up there for a week. Kept getting bad routing from Mablethorpe to Skeggy & vice versa so, decided to have a look at the area. (A bit difficult as I’m only allowed a 1m edit range at the mo)
The connections OFF Quebec Rd & Meer Bank to the holiday park ARE restricted to vehicles but not pedestrians. I’ve left the turns as unavailable to traffic as I read in the editing manual that, putting in pedestrian access could possibly allow routing to vehicles so, I’ve left the turns in red. Any advice on this would be appreciated as I’ve done the same for pedestrian walkways in my hometown of Hinckley. In Hinckley I’ve used “pedestrian boardwalks” as opposed to “walking trails” off of Golden Sands Park.
I’ll have a look at the AM link as I do like to map edit as accurately as possible. I can appreciate that leaving incomplete edits to repair later is a minefield as they can be easily overlooked.
Unfortunately I only do about 4500m/yr so my editing area will never be very broad. It leads to loose ends at my editing extremes too.
I’m also pleased to say that I am drug free and don’t intend trying any soon.
Try as I might, I can’t find the reasons for the poor live routing from Skeggy to Mablethorpe. I can’t access any of my route history from my dashboard to check, which doesn’t help.
Dave, previously, the main reason for asking to unlock the roads was so that any new connecting roads could be added and any minor hiccups, like above, could easily be changed. I guess the easiest way is to apply to be an AM, to save all the posting/reposting. I would rather not keep bothering everyone every time I come across a minor blip. I would look like a right pedant
As Waze is a navigation app for car drivers, it really isn’t necessary to map any roads or paths that can’t be driven along (either practically or legally). It’s probably best to disconnect them completely from the road network to avoid any erroneous routing that could happen, and maybe even delete them altogether.
Pedestrian Boardwalks are sometimes appropriate for pedestrianised street in town centres, as they can occasionally be used by delivery vans.
Thx Tim.
As I’ve deliberately not allowed any turns for vehicles, I am assuming no routes can be made through them.
Some pedestrian walkways I have edited in have housing on them but have access to the rear via other roads. I have included and named them but not allowed any turn access into them. I am assuming that, people will still need to search for the correct street address, but will be routed to the nearest point of access.
Skeggy - Mablethorpe: I’m hazarding a guess that, by choosing the first route that Waze came up with on my iPhone (possibly via A1104) but then taking the A52 Roman Bank instead, resulted in Waze constantly trying to redirect me back onto the A1104 all the way to Mablethorpe. That would explain why it kept trying to take me off the route that I’d taken on the way to Skeggy.
It’s all starting to make sense…(pause for drag of joint)
…now!
P.S. I didn’t really have a joint, it was purely for comedic effect. Probably wasn’t that funny.
It’s not always the case that just by restricting the turn that the client will not route through it. It can be quite tricky to ensure that a mapped road is not routed along by the client. This posed a problem when mapping Motorway service areas which often have access roads that are not available for use by the general public (as so Wazers).
