Unlock request in , Illinois

Hi Editors,

I would like to be able to edit the following place.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Reason: The area I want to edit is a shopping center parking lot. When I set a route to a restaurant across the street (evitas steakhouse), Waze suggested that I park in a Home Depot parking lot a few blocks away. The restaurant suggested that I park in this shopping center parking lot which is directly across the street. However, while the area is designated as a shopping center, and some of the main parking lot roads are shown, the area is not designated as a parking lot. I would like to add more of the parking lot roads and designate it as a parking lot.

Thank you in advance,

I forgot to add the city in the initial request.

Hello, and welcome to Waze editing. In a very common occurrence, it’s likely you don’t have the parking lot layer turned on in the map editor (WME). There already is a parking lot area mapped for the shopping center. You are 100% correct that the interior of the parking lot needs more roads added, which you can do without an unlock from us. https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/USA/Best_map_editing_practice#Parking_Lots is an excellent source for guidance.

As to the initial reason for you concern, parking lots in Waze are a half-baked and semi-abandoned feature that had a lot of potential, but unfortunately developer time was siphoned away for other features. So, in this case, the shopping center parking lot was marked as restricted because the original editor believed that only customers of the shopping center were allowed to park there. As you have indicated that the parking lot is open to customers of the shops across Lincoln Ave, I marked the lot as public, which will make it appear in the list of suggested parking lots. This will only solve this particular problem, so my suggestion would be to completely ignore any Waze suggested parking lots and look around for parking when you get close to your final destination.

Thanks
