Hi Guys,

I really ask that everyone read this text. I would like to apologize now for spelling mistakes, my English must be refreshed.

I think it’s no big secret that the map in Istria is not good. That was still nicely expressed, in truth it is the purest catastrophe.

I do not want to defend myself, I will certainly have made my mistakes. Unfortunately it is not easy to edit the map in Croatia. Especially for lower levels it is almost impossible to move. But something really has to happen now.

Guys, the number of mistakes and the serious ones are massive. Forgive me for putting it that way, the map is an imposition to the users

Even with simple things, the mistakes are unbelievable, there is no order, nothing.

Some examples:

  • Major Highway, Minor Highway, Primary Street all completely wrong.
  • Massive spelling mistakes everywhere
  • Speed ​​limits Wrong
  • parking lots drawn incorrectly (very often multiple drawn !!!)
  • Cities Wrong registered
  • POI not completely entered or completely wrong
  • Street name Wrong or not registered at all (It’s not an exaggeration to say that 95% of the streets are wrongly labeled !!!)
  • Waders contain cities (sometimes even opening hours) or are drawn over roads.
  • Gas stations not fully registered
  • Whole villages not connected
  • Unconnected roads, arrows wrong. Kind of roads just about all wrong.

I have the feeling that many drawings were diced.

These are just a few points, I could write a whole book about it. But in a nutshell: IT IS ALMOST FALSE ON THE MAP! The situation is no longer sustainable.

I know it is not easy to sign in the Balkans, the information is not as easy to read as in Germany or something. Nevertheless, it is a disaster.

I would like to be honest, when I had vacationed in Croatia, I have already noticed the massive mistakes. At some point I was so annoyed by the routing that I then used Google Maps and Apple Maps. This is not a condition.

I ask for help. I sincerely ask that we all get together and think seriously. It can not go on as it is at the moment.

Fabian,

I think you are right that a lot can be improved and that there is work to be done.
Your message sounds somewhat dramatic, but my experience is that you can almost always go where you want to go and that the map is always better than the navigation in my car. And that is because editors like you and others do their best.
As a passionate Waze user, I can only ask you to continue with your good work ;).
I also do notice that there is currently not that much (structured) communication within a community in Croatia. I think an own Slack environment can be a great first move for Croatia to bring map editors together, start discussion and make sources more accessible (see also the WME chat thread).
