Very Basic Question About Default City Speed Limits

I am asking this question about default city speed limits because I do not want to make an incorrect assumption.
Here, in Toronto, the speed limit is 50 Kmh unless otherwise posted.

Using the Waze App (for IPhone) I have noticed that there are many segments on my typical routes that:

  • the Waze App does not display a speed limit
  • there are no speed limit signs on the road in that segment
  • this is very consistent on my routes

Am I correct in assuming that the speed limit on these segments is actually 50 Kmh and that I should edit the segment with a 50 Kmh speed limit?

My next question is why does this anomaly exist?
Other segments in the immediate area that do have a speed limit are correctly updated in the Waze App.

I hope that I have asked these questions correctly and in the correct sub-forum.

Thank you in advance!

Hi Allan,

You are correct. If there is no speed limit posted, then it would be the default 50km/h.

I can’t speak for the area your in as to why many segments would not be updated with the speed limit, but my guess would be because of lock levels or because of a shortage of editors in the immediate area. Definitely though, all public roadways should have a speed limit applied to it.

Thank You.
