Is it possible to have a vehicle type as to use of HOV availability?
Currently I cannot use HOV lanes, but Waze keeps believing I will use them. Result is that I am not presented with alternative routes when main lanes are busy.
Yet I notice that time estimates are still presented as if I am using the slow main lanes.
Yes, if your vehicle is a motorcycle, taxi, or a bus, Waze will route you on the HOV lanes.
There are varying requirements to take the HOV lanes using a Private car or Electric Car (license plate entitlements, number of passengers)
If you vehicle qualifies, you can go to the Toll & HOV Passes section where you can add the ontario-greenplate-canada pass.
If there is a passenger requirement then you are presented with the choice during the routing phase to select the HOV route if you have the required amount of passengers.
If Waze keeps routing you incorrectly, then check to make sure you haven’t erroneously added an HOV pass or have the wrong vehicle type selected. You will need to restart the app when making those changes.
Thanks for the info.
I am using vehicle type ‘Private’ and had never set any passes. I see in the default passes there was one for ‘Clean Pass’. I have now turned that off and will see what happens. I suspect that I can turn all the passes off (exception being 407ETR).
HOV Smart Pass was never turned on.
My understanding is that when using the Routes feature, your main route at the start of a trip should not have any HOV with your current setup, but second and third suggestions may include HOV. If you choose one of the alternates that includes HOV, that “indicates” to Waze that for this trip you “qualify” for HOV for this trip (a roundabout way of indicating that you have 2 or more people in the car).
If you have the vehicle type or passes set in Waze, it will offer you the HOV lanes automatically. Removing them and restarting the app will change the route back to a non-HOV route.
You can then tap on Routes and if the HOV lanes are quicker and you meet the passenger requirements it will offer the HOV lanes with the +2 people icon.
Yes, DOFACS had said they had removed all HOV passes, so the first/default route in a session should be non-HOV, but alternate routes may have HOV lanes (and display the HOV+2 icon), and you need to manually pick it to make it the active route.
I can confirm that now I have turned off ‘Clean Pass’ it is no longer assuming that I will use HOV lanes. Thanks for the help.
