Σχετικά με το θέμα της μετάφρασης έκανα κάποιες ερωτήσεις στην Rebecca (localization manager) και πήρα τις παρακάτω απαντήσεις τις οποίες και παραθέτω:
1. Who reviews the translated strings? Is this done by a separate team, so we do not have to worry about it at all?
Reply: 1) All strings are reviewed by the community. This is an important step because it is a great opportunity to find and fix any errors. That said the strings do not need to be 100% reviewed when we upload them, they should be at least 50% reviewed and translators should eventually get them to be 100% reviewed.
2. Is it better to create the Glossary first, so that all translators use the same definition for the same word? (Or consistency is checked by the reviewers?)
Reply:2) Yes, it is a great idea to create the glossary before you begin translating. If you want to speed things up you can decide to translate the glossary as you go.
3. From your experience in the translation projects for other languages, should we use plural or singular. I suppose that this depends on where this text exists. Do you have a guideline for this?
Reply: 3) For the client the majority of strings should be translated in the singular form. The app is talking to the person that is using it most of the time. You may find exceptions to this, but the general rule is to translate in singular form.
The website and WME translations are generally plural.
4. Is there a way to have the info about where every text exists in the app? (screenshots for example). Is it in the “sign up” process, or in Terms & conditions, or a pop-up message. Sometimes, if you don’t have the full context it is difficult to decide if you should use the noun or verb for a word or if you should use plural or singular.
Reply: 4) For the client project it is a little difficult because we do not have keys for each string. Keys, which do exist in the web projects give an indication to where each string is located in the app. The best way to get context is to look at the comments other translators made or ask us for screenshots and/or clarification.
Translating in the beginning is the most difficult, but you get the hang of it quickly and after a while you have ‘suggestions’ to use for many string which come from the translation memory and make the whole process faster.
5. I have noticed that “Version 4.0” is not not yet available for translating to Greek. Does it make sense to translate the Waze app for previous versions (that is available on transifex) or should we wait for version 4.0 to become available for translating in Greek?
Reply: 5) Yes it definitely makes sense to start translating now. The 4.0 project that you see is only screenshots for the App store and App store text. All other client strings are in the project called ‘Waze App translations’. This project consists of 4.0 strings and all previous version strings.

Πολύ σημαντικό είναι να “χτίσουμε” το glossary ώστε να μιλάμε την ίδια γλώσσα
Γενικά, θα πρέπει να κάνουμε ένα thread για τα guidlines της μετάφρασης που να τα βλέπει όλος ο κόσμος ώστε να μην το περιορίσουμε μόνο στους champs που είμαστε 4 (max)
