Waze directions now headline what seems to be the information of the next sign on the route, instead of what the next relevant action to be taken, e.g., telling you to go straight on I69-S in 1000 feet when you are already are on I69-S. That in itself is confusing and disorienting. But more importantly, these sign info updates are nothing more than noise that obfuscate what the next driving action should be.
Here in Houston. it’s common to have situations where you need to rapidly have to change lanes in order to make the next turn or change in driving directions. And of course this kind of road situation is going to have signs telling you the different options. Instead of Waze telling you what you need to do next, it will repeat what one of the signs indicates, then after that indicate something like take 288 South in 175 feet, which regularly (multiple times a day for me) puts me in a situation where I have to do something sudden and dangerous to follow the directions.
It seems little thought is put into the user experience of trying to follow these directions. It seems it’s assumed that it takes 0 seconds to read what Waze says to do and 0 seconds to correlate to the current road conditions and choices, By the time the few seconds pass it does take to do those things, it’s either already too late or very dangerous to try to execute the next instruction.
Waze is effectively broken for me on most of the routes I use these days in Houston
