Waze sends me to the wrong suburb

In the last couple of months something strange has happened in the Waze app. I live in Commercial Road, Prahran, which on my iPhone is listed as my ‘home’ address. If I tap “home” in the Apple app, it navigates there correctly. If I say, “Hey Siri, navigate home using Waze”, Waze takes me to a different Commercial Road in Ferntree Gully. Interestingly I was talking to a friend today, who tells me that Waze has also started misdirecting him when he tells it to navigate to Howell Road in Mount Waverley, sending him instead to a Howell Road in Berwick. When I tried to tell Waze, via Siri, to send me to his place, via his name (which is in my Apple address book together with suburb and area code), it also directs me incorrectly to Berwick. In each case, the suburb is specified as part of the address in Apple Contacts, but Waze seemingly ignores the suburb name. It never did this in all the previous years, so I am assuming an update introduced a bug? Help!

Thanks for your report. If you go into the Waze app and search for the address, does the first address work correctly?

Can you please provide the two addresses? You can send them to me privately via Waze Chat if you’d prefer.

Hey @world_0p4r0acf, this is such an interesting case, I just did some testing with 48 Commercial Rd, Prahran VIC 3181 and was surprised.

What I found
If I click the address on the contact card, or do a search for the contact within Apple Maps or Waze, I’m taken to the right address.

Siri
It gets a bit interesting here, I found that regardless of using Apple Maps or Waze you get taken to the same place. Whether you get taken to the correct place or the wrong place - which for me was a different, I assume my closest, Commerical Rd - seems to have been dependent on how the address was added to the contact.

  • If I searched an address in Apple Maps and used share to add the address to the contact, Siri was taking me to the wrong address in both Apple Maps and Waze.
  • If I manually entered an address into the contact card (if you’ve already got an address make sure you delete and make a new one), Siri was able to take me to the correct address in both Apple Maps and Waze.

Give it a try and let me know how you go.

If you are seeing the same as me, I’d recommend raising a bug report with Apple. You can do so via their website or if you’re currently using Safari via their built in feedback app by typing applefeedback:// into the search bar.

HI and thanks for the interesting comprehensive reply. I will follow up doing a similar test (this we are moving at the begging on February, so it may become a moot popiont then!) and also raise a bug report, since the issue seems to be Siri related!
