I have the latest version of Waze running on my Blackberry Torch, which is also running the latest Blackberry OS and the latest version of the Foursquare app.
I’ve been running Waze with Foursquare for at least a year with no problems. But recently, (a few weeks ago), Waze stopped connecting to Foursquare. It get’s the “Oops try again later” error every time I try to connect to Foursquare now.
The Foursquare app works and connects just fine. Waze works fine for GPS only functions, it just can’t connect to Foursquare anymore.
I tried deleting Waze and reloading it, but this didn’t fix the problem.
Waze is a fun app, but if it’s lost it’s ability to connect to Foursquare, then I might as well delete Waze and just use Google Maps on my phone for my mobile GPS needs.
Can someone PLEASE tell me what might be happening and how to fix it, (please don’t say just wait and try again later, because this is a consistent error that doesn’t change with time or location).
I love the logic that attempts to justify living with a broken feature just because it isn’t a feature that you personally use…
I use Waze as a talking GPS when my in-car GPS occasionally has issues with finding an address or when I’m walking, and as a very convenient way to check in on Foursquare too.
I don’t need or use the virtual candy eating game or any of the other features on Waze, but I bet that doesn’t make those features any less important to other users.
Bottom line, Waze has a core set of functions that includ(ed) Foursquare Connectivity. If for any reason one of those core functions stops working, I would expect the developer to make a little more effort to resolve them with an adhoc update rather than just saying: “Too bad Waze users that utilize the Foursquare function, you’ll have to just wait for the next update whenever that may be…”
I wasn’t justifying it in any way whatsoever, just reacting to your statement that if it doesn’t have this then you’re not going to use it any more.
As it happens it’s actually down to foursquare changing their API rather than the feature breaking. It’s been acknowledged by waze and the feature should be returning in due course!
And instead of blindly dismissing the feature as one of little use to me, I’ve been asking them for some time to use foursquare in a more productive way. Then perhaps it could be listed as a core feature.
I’m not really interested in continuing a dialog with an end user and his personal opinions about what constitutes a core feature and who’s fault the bug is.
Quite frankly I don’t care who’s fault it is. If the Waze developers want to keep a loyal following for this or any other application. Then timely support is a reasonable end user expectation.
I’m sure I’m not alone in wanting to hear from an actual Waze developer as to when a fix to the Foursquare Bug is expected. And something more specific than “The next update”.
Waze had months and months of warning the API was going to expire. They chose to focus on other things. Disappointing? Yes. Should Waze have had this ready to go in the last two versions release? Yep. Google Maps having the functionality that Waze currently has? I don’t think so.
OK, so if you can all put your egos aside now - perhaps Waze could answer the obvious question - when is the next release of Waze (for blackberry as well as other platforms) going to be released? Any beta versions available to test?
I was notified we would be waiting a long long time for an update that would fix that. Sadly its just not worth it to waze anymore. There’s just no benefit and other traffic apps are more accurate/reliable.
Ok… so you guys, [Waze Developers], used the popularity of Foursquare to create traffic to your website and increase your user numbers by creating a 4sq badge to get Foursquare users to download Waze.
Now you’re giving the BIG MIDDLE FINGER to all those same new users that you got from Foursquare by saying you’ll get around to fixing the Foursquare integration you allowed to lapse someday… maybe… in the next BIG update… in the future… whenever that may be… don’t look for a date…

Don’t blink WAZE Developers, the new Google Maps beta (available for Android) now includes Turn by Turn Voice Directions and way more capabilities. It’s only a matter of time before it becomes available for iPhone, Blackberry, etc… users too.
If you can’t even offer users timely updates to fix broken features, you can pretty much count on watching the user base you got from 4sq eventually get fed up and leave.
Not to make excuses for Waze, but they are a small company, and have been dealing with a lot of major crisis, from explosive growth, and data center outages. What I’m hearing is, basic triage. Foursquare change the method to interface with them, so this is not a simple, restart a down process. This requires some new code to be written.
It is your choice to uninstall, but I recommend just using the foursquare app for now. Yes, you can’t get the badge, but how many badges out there are for place specific items, that you may also never get.
The new iPhone beta, is showing splitting of the search results into the different services. My hope is that foursquare search might be added to this, once they get the new protocol in place.
