Wazer are updating with false gas prices

I’m in the Pittsburgh region, and there are so many Wazers that are intentionally posting false gas updates. One of the users, “spirtofthewild” who is in the top 10 in total points in the state, does false gas price updates all of the time. It’s obvious they are just clicking the update button for points only, without actually updating the gas prices. This is destroying one of the main uses for Waze, which is to find the cheapest gas prices in the area. I have screenshots of many wazers and their false updates. Often the mid grade and premium gas prices are reported as cheaper than the regular gas, which are false. I would like to see these users get their accounts suspended, or possibly removed from updating the gas prices.

Another one of the waze users, with the account name “LouiePronio”, constantly reports that gas stations only sell Regular gas, and that Midgrade, Premiun and Diesel are not even offered. I have been at these stations and can confirm they sell all levels of gas, but if their sign only advertises the regular gas price, this wazer reports as if the station doesn’t offer any other gas.

What can be done about this? To whom can i submit my proof, so this is addressed?

Many people only report updated for regular gas only. That’s because it is the only price you can see as you drive by. Without actually pulling into the station it is difficult to see the other prices

I agree with @scutmud on this and made the below suggestion on CenterCode:

SUG-1477

the purpose of the gas price update it for it to be done while you are at the pumps where you can see all of the prices. Putting Not offered is worse. Some vehicles need high octane gas, and when you are in another city, and you search for that specific gas, those gas stations will not be shown, since they are currently listed as not offering that type of gas.

I’m afraid I don’t see it the same way. Gas prices can be updated by people passing by on the road and see posted prices. There is no way to enforce what you are suggesting, hence the suggestion I have made.
If you need high octane gas for your car you don’t care about other prices much.

I have seen the same from user spiritofthewild and user Non-pay. Both travel for a living, and spirit may be a trucker from the looks of the amount of land they cover. I have sent a message to Non-pay because I know for a fact the prices they confirm are dated.

A waze user can be blocked from updating gas prices, but this has to be handled by high-up editors.

i have a user who does this daily as well in northern NJ i tried sending a forum PM but since they have never logged in i couldnt

Is there a way to get the app to only update for the prices you physically enter? When you enter a price a green check mark shows up in the corner so you know it’s been logged.

This is exactly what I suggested here:

SUG-1477

it still wont stop them from entering incorrect prices for the points (i’m assuming that’s why they are doing it) which i see very often.

Nothing would but it will reduce the potential of people reporting wrong prices unintentionally.
If someone report false gas prices it can’t be prevented, but if this is done intentionally he can be blocked from reporting.

Please do not blank prices just because you cannot confirm them. This creates incorrect info that the Type of fuel is not even offered.

Yes – champs have ways to work with the Waze team. I have asked one of our champs for some guidance on this issue.

Voludo - I do that many times when the posted prices you can see while driving provide only lower octane pricing and/or diesel.
If I only update the lower octane pricing Waze believe all the rest stayed the same with an update of “today” which is possibly wrong as if one price changed most likely others too.
I made a suggestion on Centre Code to show and let you update only the fuel grade you are choose as your preferred or put and update title to each grade separately, changing only the grade you reported about.
I believe until this is being implemented it might be the best approach.

Which is less accurate? To show that the fuel is offered, but show the price from 3 days ago or to show that the type of fuel is not offered at all?

Which user, Chris?

mamaroadster ranked #37 on the nj scoreboard. i havent checked in about a month but i typically get extremely wrong prices from them as well as confirming old prices and deleting grades of gas (ie showing N/A for premium)

as someone who regularly purchases premium i think this is a TERRIBLE approach as it will not route me to that gas station since i have premium setup as my preference.

It is also false on my end to report wrong prices.
I think this is something need to be addressed by the devs and separate the reporting by fuel grade.

Agree 100%! I drive a significant amount and often wondered if there was a rogue user script that allowed gas prices to be updated without actually visiting or driving by the gas station? There is a user in Southestern PA named “shnootz” who’s tag can sometimes be found on EVERY gas station within 50 miles of where I like. I can update my local Wawa gas price only to pass by an hour later and see “snootz” tag back on the price update. I did this 4 or 5 times in one day and after each update, snootz always applied a new update. Snootz is currently ranked #33 All time in PA.

I know the response will be - well maybe snootz passed the Wawa 5 times in one day like I did? Possible? However, I can drive up to 50 miles away - Say towards Allentown on Monday, Bensalem, on Tuesday, etc. No matter where I travel - Snootz tag can be found!! What are the odds we both traveled the exact same roads on the exact same days - every day of the year- for over a year?? How does Snootz update gas prices several times a day at gas stations 50 miles apart on the same day? Hummm
