Hi ACT Wazers and those looking here for the first time.
As an introduction I’m Cantanga and I’m the area manager for Southern ACT. Purp_p1 is the Northern ACT area manager but feel free to contact any of us (or use the forums as any answers can help others as well) if you have questions.
If this is your first look at waze you may be a bit confused with how to edit but don’t worry, view the intro videos, they are quite helpful. The wiki https://www.waze.com/wiki/ will be able to answer most questions. The Australian section https://www.waze.com/wiki/Australia is also a valuable source of information as it contains the style guide which is relevant when editing. Even if your not new these resources should be viewed periodically so we have consistent and usable maps.
The ACT in generally pretty usable for navigation but there are a number of things that can still be improved:
City naming: Have a look at the style guide for correct nomenclature
Junctions: Some of these are overly complicated which can cause havoc with the voice navigation. While it may look nice having each way having it’s own ramp for 5m where the left turn cuts the corner. Remember the purpose of this is for navigation and to be used on devices with limited resources. The simpler the better. Again look at the Australian style guide to see where ramps are appropriate and how to draw junctions. Alternatively if your not sure ask on the forums for help
Turn restrictions: Please be aware of the allowed turns when editing a section of road. A number of roads in Canberra have these wrong which causes the software to navigate on a very circuitous route.
Have a look through that and get in and have a go. If you do have troubles post a message in the forum or PM one of the area managers someone will be able to help. Most of all have fun and happy Wazing
