Welcome to the Georgia Forum

Route 2 is only 10 minutes longer, but more scenic.

WoW, that’s all? Well, I’ve been spending my last year in Afghanistan on a round-trip courtesy of the United States Army. Thx for the updates! I’ll continue plugging away.

Guess I should pop in and say hello. HELLO! I’m a L2 member & live in Long County on the Liberty County line - midway between Hinesville, Ludowici & Glennville. For those not familiar with the SE GA area, that is 50 miles west of Savannah. Joined Waze way back in my Droid 1 days but uninstalled due to battery drain way back then. 2 phones later, I’m back.

Learning the ropes in the editor and trying to fix all the things popping up in the validator and trying to get the hang of the intricacies without screwing anything up too badly. drive79 has been asnswering some questions for me which is nice.

My ultimate goal is to simply help get at least ONE navigation map that shows the REAL street names in this area since every one of them just shows the old names from maybe 30 years ago and the rest are blank.

I do have an unlock request or at the very least a segment that needs edited to allow turns along SR-196. Do we have a dedicated sub-forum here for that or just the main one?

Welcome. Great to have a South Georgia editor!

The quickest way to get the unlock fixed is through the unlock request subforum in the US folder (https://www.waze.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=622. You can also try using the map chat to see if any of the country editors are active at the time.

I’d help, but that’s WAAAAAY outside my driven area

I’m a few weeks old to Waze and today I discovered the forums
Thought I would pop in and say hello. My commute is now very short so most of my driving is on the weekends, but my I now have my husband hooked and he’s all over the place and LOVES the app!!

Greetings! I figured I’ve been around long enough, it’s time I introduce myself.
I’m Matt, I live in Conyers, but drive all around the east side of Atlanta, regularly as far as Covington. I used to be a Conyers-Marietta commuter, so I racked up a lot of miles with Waze. Unfortunately, I didn’t discover it until last year, and it only worked on my phone starting in November, but I absolutely love it! I literally credit Waze with saving me at least 6 hours this year alone. I just got into map editing in March and am enjoying it so far, though I got more than a bit behind on checking URs I had asked for more information

Guten Abend. I live in Tennessee and edit mostly in TN & KY but I’m from Covington, GA and my family still lives there. I’ve been trying to pitch in were needed especially in terms of URs. I’ve done a lot of cleaning up in Greenville SC, Nashville & Knoxville so I guess I’ll tackle to king of all URs in Atlanta  and see what I can do to help. Thanks

Savannah, GA and surrounding area checking in. I am from Central GA (Macon, Warner Robins and beyond) and travel all around these two areas. Thought I’d say hello from the coast!

KK4TXZ, Mark

Oh look, a Georgia forum! I live in the Augusta/Ft Gordon area and I’ve started really getting into the editing thing. Just thought I’d say hi since I found this thread!

Welcome to all the newer editors: toolie821, Zatnikitelman, Bigworm23, KK4TXZ, & Forny008. Sorry if I missed anyone.

Rule number one to successful editing is educate yourself via the multitude of Wikis. Start with the Southeast Wiki linked in my signature line, below.

Rule number two is if in the unlikely event you cannot find your answer in the wikis, ask in the appropriate forum. You’ve seen the Chat function by now, and recommend you know what the wikis say before you take any Chat advice. Many brain cells were harmed developing the wikis, so before you go saying or believing stuff in Chat, give the wikis their due.

Rule 3. Don’t leave red (incomplete) edits. These are very visible in the Waze Map Editor (WME) and will draw unwanted attention, as will mapping every row in a parking lot.

Understand that if you stick with it long enough, you may find yourself moving up in the rank structure, which means you’re not as limited in what you can edit. All those roads locked at level 3 or higher sure would be nice to be able to tweak a little, right? Well, guess what? As you move up, the senior editors expect you to do more to help those newer than you, which means less time for what we love: editing.

Now get to work!

I’ve been using waze for a while, but am fairly new to editing. I live and work on Fort Gordon, so I’d like to think I’m contributing to the surrounding area.

I unfortunately can’t spend as much time messing with the map as I’d like, due to the Army taking up most of my time. I’ll continue trying to educate myself on the ways of waze

Hi,

Been using Waze for about a year now, and I’m just now getting started in the map editing. I’ve been reading and watching the various info sources, and I’ve added a few places and their parking lots to get some practice with segments and junctions and turn directions (of course now I’ve read that the places part is a bit of a hassle for approvers now).

I’ve noticed on the map a few URs that are in my area (Lawrenceville and most of Gwinnett County) that look easy to resolve, and some are getting some age on them. I’ve not seen any guidance anywhere yet about who is allowed to work with URs, but I thought I’d check before jumping in.

If allowed, from other forum posts it looks like resolutions would be a combination of conversations with the reporter and maybe driving the route to see the problem in person. And of course, watch for unintended consequences!

Thanks for any advice…

Welcome tlc. I do a little bit of driving in your area (it’s where my parents live), so feel free to ask any questions.

Hola! New(ish) editor, still level 1, in the Duluth/Norcross/Suwanee area. TLCarpenter, I’ve seen your name a couple times. Still trying to learn, having a bit of a hard time figuring stuff out, but it’ll come eventually, I suppose. Just thought I’d pop in and say “hi!”

Welcome CrossFitGeek! I’ve come across your name on the map as well. I’m still learning and am constantly going back to the wiki and finding smallish mistakes I made early on. Feel free to PM for any guidance…and something I’ve learned in the process…spankdog is your friend! He knows everything  and is willing to mentor us trainees. Don’t be afraid to ask.

Yep, spankdog and I are becoming fast friends! He’s already been a wealth of information.

Hi all, just wanted to introduce myself, from LaGrange, GA I travel the highways and byways back and forth between LaGrange, and Columbus daily… Glad to find this forum!!!

Another newbie here - Hi everybody.

Hey All! I am new to the forum, but not too new to editing - I am learning a lot though as I am having a crash course in fixing a messed up tri-county area where I reside. I am in the boondocks of central georgia and am doing my best to fix ALL the incorrect spots and yes - there is more than I care to count. LOL. I am on Slack, FB, and other social media as well as here - holla if you need me for anything or if you see i did something wrong or whatever - I am a work in progress and take all advice I can get.

I hope I can be an area manager for the area I am working on very soon, but I will get there someday I am sure. Anyways, peace to all and God Bless!

~Amy :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi Amy, I don’t see that you are on the waze slack team, or on the SE region channel. Please PM me your email and I will send you an invite! Thanks.
