What happened when Waze showed "Offline" and couldn't guide me home?

If this post is in the wrong location, please advise…

So, yesterday about 3pm at Welford Park House, Welford, Newbury RG20 8HT I opened Waze on my Android phone and pressed “Home” and no routes appeared. I noticed “no internet” showing. Waze was also showing “Offline” :open_mouth:

Does anyone know if I made a basic error that if avoided, I could have saved myself a lot of anguish?

It navigated me there fine…

Now this was a problem becasue I was in an area which was not familiar to me and it made me realise I could be reduced to reading road signs; and as you know, they where removed in case of invasion during WWII and where subsequently replaced in all the wrong locations to fool the communists… Or at least it was something like that; so I was looking down the barrel of not a very pleasant trip home.

So I checked out Wi-Fi and data settings, and as far as I could see the phone was the same as for the drive there. And I know that Wi-Fi was irrelevant anyway but this was clutching at straws… :face_with_monocle:

I restarted the phone. It remained the same. Then I thought “google maps”! It started up and took me home - apart from selected a terrible route, but there is lot of traffic in Surrey and Hampshire (a ridiculous amount).

Of course my car doesn’t count becasue I say so… I’m part of “us”, not the others who are “them”…

Now to be particularly serious, :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: I don’t like being dropped into a black hole of DIY navigation. It don’t have a map backup - maybe I should ?? - but these systems should not be failing.

Or did I set myself up for a fail?

Oh, once at home I checked and Waze had begun operating fine as though nothing out of the ordinary had happened earlier.
