Typical New Orleans street. Get to an intersection and can only go one way and thinking…something’s not right if there’s a vehicle coming from my right with the one way sign telling me to go right.
I know that area, although I can’t quite pinpoint it. That’s near the convention center on the bridge side. About…5 blocks from the river. Somewhere in the Tchopatoulis St Josephine St area, but not that far down.
IMO it’s a misuse of the “one way” sign to the right of the photo. Only a right turn is possible from the POV of the photo, but the road itself is not one-way. Maybe the highway department was out of “Right Turn Only” signs that day?
This is actually east of the French Quarter, 2 blocks off the river on St. Ferdinand at Chartres. It’s right around the border of the Quarter and the Foubourg Marigny.
It’s definitely a misuse of the one-way sign…if the sign was on the left side of the street, it would be just as wrong, but not quite as bad.
I was trying to think of a better way to sign that intersection, but the “Right Turn Only” sign didn’t come to mind because those are rarely used around New Orleans. There are many other intersections like this that are just as bad.
So they should have plenty of the “right turn only” signs sitting around somewhere. (“No left turn” doesn’t preclude continuing straight.)
On the other hand, you’d think the two prominent “Do Not Enter” signs should clear up any confusion… At some point, adding signs becomes clutter, and makes the situation more confusing, rather than more clear.
