Around where I am, there are a lot of split roads. When I first started on here, I went around paving and editing to be as accurate as possible, but since reading the wiki, and this thread, I’ve slowly been working on unsplitting some of these roads.
For now, I’m splitting roads that have the grass (sometimes concrete) median strip which are usually the width of a car lane, but only if it’s a major road, or if the GPS trace is far enough apart. For example, the road I live on (Shellharbour Rd, Warilla) is a 6 lane main road, 3 lanes on each side, so I’ve split it. If it is to have only 4 lanes, it would depend, and I don’t think I’d bother with 2 lanes, unless there was enough of a gap. Feel free to have a look at my area (Warilla, NSW) and let me know if I should change how I do things.
There is another AM that seem to be going all over the place, and doesn’t seem to be consistent with his mapping, though I’ll sort his stuff out when I get to those areas.
Sigh. There are so many split roads around Brisbane. Some are causing user reports, and many are locked - presumably because people have tried to fix them in the past and have been overridden by local area managers. How can we police area managers who are doing this? How do we even contact them? What can be done?
Adelaide is also very quiet and I’m struggling to find an AM to help me unlock some roads to do connections.
It is the initial impulse to split roads but after reading the forums and wiki it’s quite clear that you should do this only in exceptional cases and not as a norm. I can understand why some main roads are locked to stop them alternating back and forth. The issue with this is that the areas around them are not complete and when I put them in I cannot connect them up to the main road.
The other thing with Adelaide is that every road is put as a primary street so the map has very little distinction. As a relatively new user I am assuming that those who have been here before have thought about it and decided to do it the way it is done now…
I would appreciate any active Adelaide AM would PM me as I have a few questions. Or how can I become an AM for Adelaide?
I’ve found having these roads un-split is causing problems with routing etc.
I’ve been splitting some major roads due to one side of the road having roads that come in to 1 side of the split road and saying you can’t turn one way is causing problems when you have them coming up as u-turn points when there is a traffic island in the way.
You also have the problem of stuttering within the app due to the single 2-way road isn’t able to handle a split road.
The roads I have split I’ve found to actually work much better than leaving them un-split, because the road is set in the correct directions and the u trun points can be placed properly instead of every road that comes on to the 2way road becoming u-turn points.
The app can handle split roads fine, any problems arising are probably due to turn directions not set properly.
The wiki is ok as a guidline but I wouldn’t follow it to the letter as it has overseas people stating what the rules are.
Waze have actually changed some of the set rules in the last 3 months, which isn’t put into the Wiki by Waze staff the only people who edit the Wiki are the users of Waze but Waze staff do post set rules in to forum posts here and there.
Also US people may not have the railroad/railway road settings, or the toll/dirt road options in the app so you get some people from the US posting about stuff as problem or on wishlists but is doable on the RoTW server/app.
