Why is Waze saying using offline maps?

I am seeing using offline maps while driving even tho I have 4 or 5 signal bars on my iPhone. Why is Waze using offline maps when I have a good cellular connection?

I am having the same issue and it’s reporting a speed 5 mph higher than what I know I’m traveling at.

If I remember right “using offline maps” means Waze has not been able to contact servers at startup, likely cause is bad reception just at the moment of startup. So app restart is recommended because even though you most times would get basic navigation (if route and destination are within map tiles already in app cache) you won’t get any traffic info or rerouting if there’s a sudden traffic jam etc.

About that speedometer reading @Jwpastor it comes straight from the GPS from your device, Waze only shows it to you. If that is always wrong and you are 100% certain you know your speed by some other source than just you car speedo I suggest you reset A-GPS data from your phone, instructions can be found with Google for your OS.

If that A-GPS data is corrupted it can cause quite a lot of trouble, for example I’ve had a problem where my location was always 30 meters to west of actual location and that reset fixed the problem. Also you might just have bad GPS-reception, for example phone in center console with “no sky view” or heated windshield (those very thin wires inside the windshield) are known to cause issues for some devices.

I always have this problem if I start waze in the house with wi-fi and then walk outside to my motorbike, if I switch off wi-fi it never uses offline maps.
