WME UI (old news for beta users)

What have they done!

I see the general idea is to make the UI fresh and clean and I would say it is an interesting progress. They’ve made cameras difficult to see, only different between approved/unapproved seems to be colour of the speed limit/traffic lights. I have spotted a reopen button for reports, which is nice.

Well, I guess that is all the script writers occupied for a few weeks. :?

Just as I was starting to think I knew how to work this, it has all changed and all the"extras" that actually make the WME usable have stopped working either completely or in part.

Oh well, the grass needs cutting and the car needs cleaning.

Somebody let me know when normality returns.

Even the cross hairs function (for connecting two streets (or railway lines to streets) together) doesn’t work now. Not happy :frowning:

I think this is one of the toolbox features? I have lost the main toolbox icon at the top and all the features that came with that!!. Still got the tab and the menu bar though, but not sure if it is working properly!!

About half of the scripts I use regularly seem to have stopped.

Plenty of wet eyes over in the Scripts forum

I’m a little confused why they have dropped the Waze blue from WME. I’ve always found it a soothing colour when dealing with URs

Progress! (not  )

Pleased I going away for work again, seems a train wreck hit WME

Official list of “improvements” here:

It’s not exactly a “wreck”. Pretty much everything that should work in WME works. However in my personal opinion it was not ready for release to productions: and, of course, we had no warning whatsoever.

The new interface is designed to be more consistent and this is, at least, an improvement. However, the UI design team seem to inhabit a world where how it looks is everything and how easy it is to use is nothing. In particular, the use of a “flat” UI indicates designers besotted with touch-screen interfaces and unaware of proper UI design for anything else. There are comments all around about contrast problems - all I can say is that you should have seen the first beta version. That was appalling. Hard to believe, but this is an improvement!

Cameras are a problem (and they’ve already been “improved”). Contrast is a problem. Layers icon apparently greyed out. Toolbar icons replaced with text. History button greyed out and not apparently a button. All of these things were reported in beta but nothing happened before it hit production.

My FixUI script will help a lot. But I’ve been holding off on rushing to fix everything because I’ve been hoping they would fix problems in Beta. So a good part of the script isn’t designed for the new version yet.

It is a “native” WME function, nothing to do with Toolbox. In a quick test I conducted, it seemed to work OK for me. The main thing that stops it working is segments at different levels.

would this explain why my toolbox toolbar is full of greyed out unusable tools?

Not really, these are possible greyed out if the function is not available due to your level, or they are greyed out because Toolbox can be funny at times with the buttons

On a separate note, I see that HQ have reintroduced the u-turn arrows at dead-end nodes, not sure why, though this was deliberately hidden as Waze must allow them :?

I have been happily using the simplify segment, and copy attribute buttons for a while now, I know how they work, they no longer ever ‘un-grey’. Most annoying.

I wanted to check some alternative names of roads but I can’t because the Address field is greyed out for me and doesn’t open when clicked.

Not sure how it was before the update but this is no good. Hiding information from lower level editors is only going to cause more work for the higher level editors.

Do remember that practice mode can be used to look at stuff your editing level doesn’t allow you to see when logged into WME normally…

Thanks Chris. That’s a great tip.
