Ok, I was surprised by that, but then I re-read the announcement at the beginning of this thread and see it mentioned there.
Is there any USA Community guidelines that we need to follow for these, or is this just a straight-forward “break the segment at the beginning and end of a tunnel and then check the ‘Tunnel’ box while selecting the resulting segment that’s in the tunnel” type of thing? I’m guessing the latter, but figure it’s worth asking just to be sure.
Sorry if I gave the impression that I didn’t
You didn’t mention the AM usernames so I just re-posted in-full what it was going to be used for since that was what we were told in the WME beta testing forums and as an information/confirmation for anyone else who could be wondering.
A lot of people complained about the bar but apparently it’s here to stay :? (for now at least).
New interface is odd. (A bit abrupt of a change)
“Select entire street” is no longer convenient. I frequently use that and is now a large amount of mouse moving across a large screen to get to it.
Closures tab should have everything you need to make the closure happen/remove without clicking yet another button to get to the rest of it. Otherwise don’t bother with a tab when you still have to click the same button. Extra unnecessary steps.
I like the points display.
I’m seeing area places disappear sooner as I zoom out over them. Now have to be at the same level as point places to see them all.
Ah. I don’t frequent the beta testing forums (even though I beta test for the app) because, quite frankly, I hate the forum software they’re using for that. (If I spot something in the app that needs reporting, I’ll do so, but other than that I avoid those forums.)
I didn’t mention the AM names because so far I haven’t see one appear in that bar, in an area where I know for a fact that we’ve got several AMs. So I was unaware of that part. Regardless, I completely fail to see the need for a black obnoxious bar to be there when they’ve been able to display location and status (“loading,” etc) in the past in that exact same region without the black bar breaking up the lines of the editor and keeping an (admittedly small) area of what used to be map data and satellite imagery from being displayed in that area. To my eye, it just doesn’t seem very well thought out.
Well gee, it’s nice to know that the Waze devs listen to their users and take their concerns into consideration before making a design decision that they themselves don’t have to live with on a day-to-day basis…
(What’s the point of having beta testers give you feedback if you’re just going to ignore that feedback??)
Hopefully they’ll rethink that and get rid of the bar.
Echoing what others have said about the black bar, all laptops have shifted to widescreen displays, so vertical real estate is a precious resource. If the bar is blank most of the time it is of limited usefulness and adds little value to the user.
I too wasn’t aware of this feature and I also do not see AM names in the obnoxious black bar. I totally agree with you on this one Dave. Coming from someone who hasn’t beta tested this version, I fail to see how anyone with any sense of how a good UI should look and feel would find this black bar helpful in the slightest. There is not much real-estate available as you said and this just chews up an unnecessary amount of it. It’s not like we can zoom out that far as it is.
Just my 2 cents. I do love the new features and the look otherwise though.
WME Beta isn’t in centercode, it’s in this forum. You have to have access to see it.
All - the conversation on the black bar has been huge on the WME Beta side. Of course your input is welcome here.
Just know that there is much more planned for this bar, AM’s and other data. We have made sure Waze is aware about it and they are already working on improvements. I cannot speculate on what exactly they are doing, but rest assured, the black bar has been noted.
Waze has also said they are looking into ways to get some more screen space back, as some of the new UI stuff has eaten up more space, some of it seemingly useless. I.E. - Points and edit count on the left…
On another note, I also agree that the “Select Entire Street” is terribly placed now. I actually couldn’t find it until someone pointed it out, and I am running with no scripts on.
Small bug: If a segment is split and one side is set as a Tunnel in the same save, deleting the new JN without setting both sides to the same Tunnel setting will throw a save error. This does not happen if the split and Tunnel setting are applied in different saves.
Found this while checking if Toolbox’s ‘suppress unneeded junctions’ respects the new Tunnel setting.
For those commenting on the “Select Entire Street” … why aren’t you just using the keyboard shortcut of CTRL-A? I’ll take keyboard shortcuts every single day of the week over having to do more clicks with the mouse. Especially since like most users, I keep my left hand on the keyboard at all times, even when using the mouse in my right hand. (Yes, some folks use the mouse in the left).
The function was simple and easy to get to. Now it’s not. As far as I can see there was no need to change it. I enjoy UI updates as much as the next guy, as long as they are enabling or making more efficient. This change actually hinders both.
Ditto.
I take my notebook with me on vacations for following up on URs and other “emergency” editing, but it’s bad enough with the screen being limited to 1024 vertical.
The regular top bar is bad enough.
