World.waze.com still having problems - summary

I agree with all of the above. In the meantime loads of interested people are switching off and deciding its not worth waiting for. All we are left with are people (like myself) who have developed map editing into a hobby! … and there are less frustrating hobbies.

There’s no evidence of that yet as you accept by asking for it in your other thread!

Likely they did not / don’t know how long it is going to take to resolve, they underestimated the damage caused by their environment shutting down abnormally, and they are fighting complex database issues.

And they have to deal with all of this pressure from the user base of a FREE application. Yes, I know a lot of us have dumped countless hours into map editing, responding to forum posts, etc. But that is our choice if we invest our personal time in this.

Maybe it’s better to just invest apx. $50 USD in the Tom Tom or Navigon application where the routing and maps are stored on the Smart Phone - ie. does not require back end servers for the product to work. The worst that can happen is that the traffic won’t update. No investment of your personal time, just pay and enjoy. And of course wait forever for the map to get updated when you report an error, and have substandard traffic data, and none of the other incident reporting features. And of course you only get maps for the ‘zone’ that you purchase. Can’t use world-wide.

Can’t verify as I’m at work but according to Dror as of ten minutes ago there are currently no issues with editing on cartouche or papyrus world servers.

So you can can respond to forum posts at work but not edit? What a shame, better talk to your boss and get this resolved

I can though I shouldn’t.

The forum is marginally more subtle than papyrus and then there’s always Tapatalk!

Big brother is watching you :sunglasses:

Yes, but map editing is an addiction. You can’t stop, right?

And having not done any for nigh on a week I am shaking a little! :?

Latest update from Krankyd (Waze Support) on this issue from comments at status.waze.com - this was posted apx. 8:30am PDT on 8/12/2011.

"krankyd responded:

we’re still working on bringing back all the services that were lost during the outage of Amazon.
We realize things on the map editor are still a bit shaky, but we’re doing our best to bring them all back - including the dashboard, the livemap, GPS points, points and mail updates. Creating junctions / roundabouts should work properly now, though editing can be very slow at times (we are working on solving these issues).

The new roads which are removed from the client will appear on the editor (cartouche or papyrus) once the routes are updated - which will take a little longer, but will happen.

Again, we apologize for all of these problems, and we hope - as all of you do - that everything will be back to normal as soon as possible."

Latest update from krankyd (Waze Support) at status.waze.com from apx. 3 hours ago. I have edited the original post to make it clearer to re-post here. krankyd’s post was responding to some comments to the original status update ‘International users can no edit again’ at status.waze.com.

The original post is in the comments here: http://status.waze.com/international-users-can-now-edit-again

'Some of our server were lost during the Amazon outage, and we are doing our best to restore them from our back ups. This is the reason for not having daily updates to the maps, and no livemap (As well as some coming and going issues with editing)

We’ll try to get daily updates into status.waze.com, so you’ll know what to expect.

I’m not sure I will have the exact numbers to share of when this problem will be 100% resolved (i.e. in 2 days or in 7 days), but I will do my best to gather as much information as possible.

I realize it is very frustrating not to be able to edit properly, but we had to give all our resources to establishing a stable client environment before working on other aspects of waze. I hope you agree that getting waze working properly on your phone is the first priority.

We will update further tomorrow’

Latest update:

I got 3 bonus candies today, so those are working again!

I got 7

Couldn’t edit for two weeks because I went camping… Since Papyrus I got one a day on average before my vacation, so there should have been 14 or so if I stayed home and made my normal number of edits…

Good thing was that I noticed nothing about these problems on the client, as I didn’t drive those days.

Made this a sticky until the problems are solved.
