826-836 Construction Project (Miami Area)

Hello Florida Wazers,

Any AM and CMs in the Miami, FL area should be aware of a massive 826-836 interchange being constructed in this area.

The aerials are extremely outdated at this point since the project started in 2009, but local knowledge as well as some of the GPS points, will help in working any update requests in this area.

Let’s keep this thread not only as an open discussion but also as a form to update each other on any changes made to any segments due to the construction, as well as to ask any questions.

Good sources for construction updates:

This is the ramp that will be closed. I’m unsure exactly where the new ramp will be connected. It says about 800 ft earlier, so I’m thinking it’ll be somewhere around here since the advisory says drivers connecting from 826 South will not be able to access the ramp.

Anyone more familiar with the situation?

I have added the ramp mentioned above based on a PDF document posted on the construction website today. See page two for the map.

Note that since the advisory says drivers joining from SR-826 South will NOT be able to access the ramp, I’ve updated the ramp to join the expressway after the NW 72nd Ave exit.

I’ve also decided to not delete the exit ramp segments in case it ever gets re-opened so that we would not lose the Waze speed information. Please do not re-connect the ramp to the roads.

Wazer authorized1 has added all the new exit ramps onto 836 W based on this construction advisory.

I added all the new off ramps based on the pdf provided by mdx on Friday. Hopefully it will go live by Monday when the new traffic pattern starts. We’ll wait and see if we get any user reports for corrections. If anyone drives the new route and notices inconsistencies with ramp locations please hit update and a short description like “off ramp” or anything to help as we are working blindly. Thanks to everyone that supports Waze.

The interchange has been updated to reflect all the closures and new ramps here.

I have decided to leave the original mainline in the map, renamed it to <Closed>, and changed its type to Parking Lot Road so it would not show on the map at highway speeds. I decided to do so to keep the speed data since I do not know if this mainline will be re-opened or if it is permanently closed.

I’m actually quite amazed, editors have been keeping up with the frequent changes on this monster and keeping the directions valid… good work! It’s a confusing mess.

Thanks!

I try to check the project’s website every few days to make sure we don’t miss anything.

Anybody drive northbound SR-826 lately and through the construction zone?

I hadn’t driven that route in months and noticed last night that the Waze map is off. There have been some lane shifts and the main thoroughfare is now closed.

Take a look at this My Drives path from my trip last night:

The map was so off that I got re-routed halfway through when the map finally aligned with where I was.

I can take a stab at making the changes, but I’d have to drive through here more than once to make sure I get all signage correct. Unfortunately, the project website did not post any updated maps we could use instead.

The biggest change is that several of the ramps we added (you can see them to the right of my drive) should be consolidated with the main Freeway segments once those freeway segments are shifted eastward.

Does anyone drive through here regularly?

I don’t have editing rights here anymore but I have drawings so I can help you out with what to change. The reason for these shifts on the mainline of 826 is the construction of bridges over the future NW 7th St connection. I’ve applied to be an area manager for this interchange so hopefully I’ll be able to help you out with it in the future. Let me know if you have any questions and also when you make the changes and I can check it.

  1. Shift this segment ( https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=5&lat=25.77378&lon=-80.31715&layers=TBFTFFTTTTTTTFTTTTTFTTTTFTTTTTTTTTTTTT&segments=74386282 ) to the east. Refer to this document ( http://www.826-836.com/downloads/T-15(7-28-13)1.pdf ) - 826 N now runs along the left edge of the orange highlighted road, up to the bridge over Flagler St. It then continues straight along that dark gray unmarked road, which appears as new unmarked pavement in the aerial image, following the center of the left path (those two stubs to the right are for direct ramps from 826 to 836 that have not yet been built). Then, if you look closely at the south end of the ramp with the red hatch, you’ll see a dark gray hatch, which is the path 826 N takes to transition back to the existing roadway. This shift is permanent, as the new bridge 826 N uses to cross NW 7th St is the final bridge, though it will be wider when completed. As far as the ramps, you can delete these ( https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=6&lat=25.76541&lon=-80.31948&layers=TBFTFFTTTTFTTFTTTTTFTTTTFTTTTTTTTTTTTT&segments=72442358,72442542,72442393 ), connect these directly to 826 ( https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=6&lat=25.76475&lon=-80.31962&layers=TBFTFFTTTTFTTFTTTTTFTTTTFTTTTTTTTTTTTT&segments=74379821,72443651 ), connect these directly to 826 on the same node immediately north of Flagler St ( https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=6&lat=25.77031&lon=-80.31991&layers=TBFTFFTTTTFTTFTTTTTFTTTTFTTTTTTTTTTTTT&segments=72442573,74384307), and leave this ramp nameless as it will just grab the names of the following segments and keep voice instructions brief ( https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=6&lat=25.77242&lon=-80.31988&layers=TBFTFFTTTTFTTFTTTTTFTTTTFTTTTTTTTTTTTT&segments=72442573).

  2. Shift this segment ( https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=5&lat=25.77581&lon=-80.31875&layers=TBFTFFTTTTTTTFTTTTTFTTTTFTTTTTTTTTTTTT&segments=74391531,70785285,61200476 ) to the east, so that 826 S is running along the middle of the 826 N lanes where it would cross NW 7th St. Keep it straight for about 100 meters on either side of where it would cross NW 7th St, then curve it smoothly back into the existing alignment. You’ll have to move the ramp and freeway segments just north of this to accomplish a smooth transition. This shift will make room for a new bridge for the collector-distributor lanes over NW 7th St, and 826 S traffic will temporarily use this bridge once it’s completed. Please verify whether 826 S is using the 826 N lanes on the original bridge over Flagler St, or whether it shifts back to the existing alignment before that point. The traffic advisory ( http://www.826-836.com/downloads/Revised-TS2-_SB_826_Shift(8-23-2013).pdf ) conflicts with my documents, and goes against the typical maintenance of traffic for bridge replacement (such as 826 at Bird Road).

  3. Shift this segment ( https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=6&lat=25.78169&lon=-80.32532&layers=TBFTFFTTTTTTTFTTTTTFTTTTFTTTTTTTTTTTTT&segments=11229167 ) about 150 meters to the west per this traffic advisory ( http://www.826-836.com/downloads/T-48(8-16-2013).pdf ). It should merge just before passing over this ramp ( https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=6&lat=25.78097&lon=-80.32555&layers=TBFTFFTTTTTTTFTTTTTFTTTTFTTTTTTTTTTTTT&segments=72619896 ).

  4. I noticed that 826 and ramps ( https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=6&lat=25.77029&lon=-80.31987&layers=TBFTFFTTTTTTTFTTTTTFTTTTFTTTTTTTTTTTTT&segments=62379806,74386282,72442542 ) need to be set to level 1 since they cross over Flagler St.

I’ll go drive it after the holiday weekend.

Ok, thanks! Let me know whether traffic on 826 S crosses Flagler on the west or east side of the original bridge. And watch out for those curves - there are a few more of them now!

That’s why I’m waiting until AFTER the holiday. I already know the roads are going to be packed with people heading to the Keys, then heading home on Monday/Tuesday, so I’ll probably hit it later on in the week.

I see someone made changes already. Thanks to whoever that was.

My commute now takes me sometimes through this interchange, so I’ll get active again.

(I’m finally back after nearly a month of no internet!)

Hello,

I’ve updated the interchange this afternoon to prepare the map for the new ramps and traffic patterns opening tomorrow, 10/20/2013.

Here is the relevant construction advisory posted on the project’s website.

In summary, the changes being made impact the exit ramp to NW 25th St from Northbound SR-826 to now be further south, and the Westbound SR-836 exit to Northbound SR-826 was shifted for a new traffic pattern (also available on the link above).

Changes have been saved to the map.

Still need a level 5 to remove the old NW 25th St Exit ramp since the adjoining SR-826 N segments are locked. I restricted the ramp, though, so that the routing algorithm doesn’t suggest it (hopefully).

Another ramp change taking place tomorrow morning, but without a map I can’t make any sense of it.

This ramp is closed, and this one is closed, as well as this one, so we can open up a new ramp. Thanks for the lack of detail on which ramp you’re opening up.

I completely agree

4 new ramps opening up on Sunday.

This one is going to be fun to try to figure out.

I get a headache just reading this.
