I’ve been trying to add a ferry to Highway 6 in British Columbia, Canada between Needles and Faquier. I can’t get it to stick. 1) There is no ferry route option. 2) Can I edit a Highway? It won’t save.
You may be able to edit. Depends on whether you’ve had Waze running along the route you are trying to edit. Editable areas will show you where you can edit. If not, that is likely the reason for your inability to save. Road type (can I edit a highway) has nothing to do with permissions.
So if I had it running when I rode across the ferry I should be able to add it as a Highway section even if it is on water?
Yup. That should be the case. Connecting it to existing roadways is another matter. If a local manager or other user with a higher rank than you has those existing segments locked, you may not be able to connect your new segments.
You can also use the Pave (or record road) function while on the ferry and when you get to the editor in a few days, your recorded route should be there. I suggest doing that once, but running waze several times whilst on the ferry so you can see the GPS tracks in the editor and then align the roadway along the center/average of the GPS tracks. Phone GPS units are not very accurate and you will see pretty serious drift, so picking the average route as the final location should be good.
Yeah. the connection with the existing Highway is definitely the problem. That’s what I meant by the question of editing an existing map feature. I can’t because it’s locked?. Makes sense. What about adding a “Ferry Route” option to the editing suite. Who do I talk to about that? 
Oh and… as I am new to this. Will someone who has the authority to add the feature that I’m having trouble with eventually read this and fix the problem? The only way to set a route from where I am (Nakusp) to where I live (Kelowna) is if there are ferry routes added. Otherwise it tells me that there is no route found.

I added it and left it unlocked so you can change the name to something more appropriate, if necessary.
Nothing nearby was locked, so that probably wasn’t the issue.
This is the default “untouched” situation for a basemapped area.

How long does it to take to filter through from the online map to the mobile map. (I still can’t get a route from Kelowna to Nakusp)

Optimally, 24hrs. These days with the infrastructure woes as updated on status.waze.com, 10+ days.
Done. The boat (and a few 100m of its wake) helpfully appears in the photo, so the path should be relatively close to reality.

Ferries and tunnels are two options i would like Waze to handle better. Schedules for the ferries could be learned by Waze automatically - if only Waze knew it was a ferry.
