Adding Speed Cameras

Please check this segment ID: 121530910 - There is a note pointing exactly to where a new speed camera is.

Also this segment ID: 341883092 - Another note pointing to exactly where a speed camera is.

Finally, this segment ID: 121531323 another note point exactly where another camera is.

Sorry, I’m not sure this is the right way to do it but hopefully editors will be able to easily understand this still and remove the notes once adding the speed cameras symbols on the map.

FYI the note references are: 731593397, 1488765440, 1413708250

Thanks for posting and highlighting this. By “note” I presume you refer to a map note in the Waze Map Editor? If so, I have followed your three links and cannot see a map note anywhere along the linked road segments to locate the new cameras. Further, I have reviewed the available street view imagery and cannot see any cameras along these linked roads either.

I am happy to help get these new cameras added if required though. Adding a map note to WME is one way of doing it. Another way would be to give me the precise what3words address for each of them too. If you could let me know where they are, and give me an idea of what direction they face too please, that would be really helpful :slight_smile:

@IP4883

Hello, thank you Sorry the notes seem to have disappeared.

These are unlikely to be on Street View. These are those new community watch speed cameras that they have put on lamp posts, which act the same as the community speed watch officers/volunteers.

These are all facing the direction of the road that I have pinpointed below. However, I am unsure whether these capture both roads or just the one it’s facing. e.g. with the first example (see below), like the rest of the example, they will capture the back of the cars when going past like gatso fixed cameras, they it lookt to capture as you go past it so its facing the same direction as you are driving.

I will have to separate the coordinates in different posts as I can only post 2 links per post. first 2 are as follows, last one will be on the next reply

Hope this helps, thanks :slight_smile:

@IP4883

Final one: thanks again

Thanks for the reply and the info provided. These being community speed watch cameras, and so not legally endorsable on your driving licence, I have sought advice of the UK Waze Map Editing community, as we would ususally only add fixed legally enforceable speed cameras to the map.

Can you give me a bit more information about the fact that these are fixed to lamp posts as, in my experience, community speed watch cameras are usually in the form of a man in a highvis with a hand held gun, rather than them being fixed.

The general consensus is that we will not add these in the map editor, instead encouraging you to add these as mobile speed cameras using the app reporting menu (report → police → mobile camera).

Hi, its the same type of camera as per this camera id: 1006564.

Exact same type of camera. Check the following article: Automatic Speed Watch Camera - Westcotec

This is the type of camera being used, painted in yellow, and is visible to the public.

Thanks, I’ll put this to the editing community and see what the consensus is.

We do sometimes add cameras as a “dummy camera” when a well meaning local resident has built their own gatso looking creation out of wood or cardboard, so we may add as this.

Consider them added, x2 facing northbound x1 facing westbound - is this correct?

They will be live in the app in the next 48 hours or so.

That is correct, thankyou
