What is the general consensus on this? Is it a good idea to not tie a main A road or motorway to a town to avoid smudges, and just use the actual in-town roads for the town name, or add nodes/junctions to define the boundaries once the “big road” passes outside the town?
I’ve been doing the former (just leaving it), but what are you Wazey peeps all doing?
I tend to use junctions at town boundaries, but I don’t think it matters a huge amount. As long as the town name appears in the roughly the right place on the map, then no one will really notice (or care) if a major road is properly tied to it or not.
I guess people rarely search for “big road, town” with the client, so it’s the residential streets that are more important. Bing will usually catch searches for those streets that aren’t properly named anyway.
For Minor/Primary roads, I stick in a node and give them the correct town/city boundaries.
For Motorway/Major, I never put in a town/city name.

I have, in the past, given main roads the names of bordering town/villages. I take it this should be stopped?
A mention in the Wiki on town naming would be good.
And whilst on the naming subject, what is it that leads to village/town creep? I remember a debate about Wellington and Wellington in Marsh and creep with Dave.
This can’t just be a naming issue but must have something to do with the maps or a layer of the map…
