Random topic I know, but it is real I promise!
I am fixing edits around Sittingbourne, Kent, UK, and am unsure about town naming.
There is a small village/town called Milton to the locals, or Milton Regis officially. Of course I would use Milton Regis, but it also comes under the main town of Sittingbourne, as does every other village within a 5-10 mile radius. The village itself is probably no more than a square mile or two, and it is also hard to know where the town officially “ends”, i.e. the extents to which the roads come under either Milton Regis, Sittingbourne, or Kemsley about a mile or so north of Milton Regis.
So the question(s) is/are: Does each invidual town/village, however small (but still sensible) need it’s own naming, i.e. Milton Regis (Kent)? Do the larger towns take over the names of the smaller villages when the extents of said village/town are not know? Is Waze able to search by road name, i.e. if a user searched for “North Street, Milton”, would they get a result if the street was labelled “North Street, Milton Regis” or “North Street, Sittingbourne”?
A lot of questions I know, but none of these have been answered previously afaik. Thank you.
May not be the answer fellow wazers agree with, but I have a similar problem around the blackpool area.
After giving it some thought I decided to use google maps as my base of reference, I.e. if the village is named on g maps then I try my best to name it on waze. Don’t worry about the geo boundaries too much, waze will sort them out, just go with what you think is right, even if that means you only name two roads for the village, and where you have a road that connects two of these villages add a junction half way and name the road accordingly (same road name, different ‘city name’).
Re searching by road name, you got it right. I.e. when I search for ‘halton ave, cleveleys’ waze gives me the correct result of Thornton-Cleveleys.
That seems like a sensible way of doing things, I might have to copy
I just didn’t want to put something REALLY small say a 1 road mini-vilage with one shop or pub, but thinking about it, I guess the locals would call it the proper name or at least know it.

I’m debating with this myself now. One minute I think “yeah I’ll label each village”, and then not.
Would marking something say “Stockbury, Sittingbourne (Kent)” work so that either can be searched for in the client? I’m not sure about it (although I think it’d work), or perhaps adding Sittingbourne as the alternate English name? Thing is it’d probably look really horrible on the Live Map (which I don’t particularly want)
Hmm…if I knew how Waze searched for roads and areas I’d be happier, i.e. proximity search, partial name search, fuzzy close-match search?
I’ve been trying to figure out the boundaries of each town too. I know that OS Maps used to have this data and I exepect it’s on Bing’s OS tiles, but they don’t give you the key so I have no idea what all those dotted lines mean.
