Bridge closed near dam of Messerschmidt Pond, Deep River

I tried marking a closed bridge in Connecticut, but was unable.

There’s no mobile data coverage near it, so I can’t mark it while there in the car, and it doesn’t show up as being in my drivable area, even though I was running Waze at both ends (there’s also many trees, perhaps the GPS wasn’t seeing the sky at those points).

The south end of the closure is where Malabar Dr. hits Winthrop Rd, and the N end is where Westbrook Rd turns into Winthrop Rd, in Deep River CT.

The construction has been happening for over a week and looks like it will continue for weeks longer. A cyclist told me the bridge is scheduled to be demolished & rebuilt.

There is an intersection of Malabar & Winthrop in Westbrook HERE & the intersection of Winthrop & Westbrook & Winthrop in Deep River HERE. However, that is 2 miles of closure & would cut off access to several dead-end streets.

The S end is closed just N of where Malabar hits Winthrop. The N end is just N of the dam, where Winthrop turns into Westrbrook. Note that there is no intersection at the N end, even though the road changes its name there.

edit I checked and it is indeed still closed as of today 7/21/16, and looks like it isn’t re-opening any time soon.

I put a closure on it until Dec 31st at 11:59pm. Can you try to find out how long it will be closed?

I’ll post back as soon as I know it’s opening. In the meantime I sent an email to CT DOT asking when they think it’ll be done.
