Delaware editors,
Can you look at the Waze instructions and the user drive at
https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=5&lat=39.679871&lon=-75.656008&mapUpdateRequest=3727658&env=usa
I almost think the wazer is saying that https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=usa&lon=-75.65489&lat=39.68320&layers=1953&zoom=5&segments=76994134,76994137
does not exist. But I thought that was a NEW ramp, not one of the old destroyed ones.
If you drive this way, can you have a look?
There are several other URs in the same spaghetti-bowl of ramps about missing roads and turns not allowed, so I am not really sure what is going on here.
I’m pretty sure that ramp is there still.
I’ll be by there later tonight and will check it out.
Thanks. To me, it looks like a nearby ramp to nearly the same place was recently replaced with this one, but I was last there in December. I imagine anyone driving around there could easily get confused.
I did a drive by and verified the ramp is there and open for traffic. Not sure what the UR was on about.
I don’t know, either. I have asked him if he actually tried to follow the waze driving directions, and what happened next. Either we will find something out or we won’t.
Thanks for driving around the Christiana Mall mess.
In my experience with the URS at the mall, the majority are bunk. I believe some Wazers are reporting “incorrect driving directions” primarily because of the way the parking lot roads are placed/routed. It’s not perfect, and won’t ever be of course. One thing that does need to be updated is the primary loop roads, now that the construction at Cabela’s is complete. However, I am wary of doing any major changes yet until the movie theater is complete.
We’ll all just have to keep an eye on the area. Russblau and I have been updating the ramps accordingly as construction progresses, so it should be good to go. More accurate than any other map service out there at least!
I noticed you had beat Google to some new ramps. Figuring out how to get them in the correct place must be a little bit tricky!
And I agree that the wazers reporting bad driving directions are most likely confused by all the construction and changes. But we do have to wind up wondering if there is yet another ramp closure happening.
Eyeballing and driving it a couple times helps too
haha…took awhile to get the ramps just right, and by this point we’ve got good GPS point data to help assist too.
I think a good rule of thumb for the Christiana Mall is to avoid ANY major changes or modifications until you physically verify it with a drive by. Things are in flux there too much to do it any other way.
The main outer Mall Road seems to be stable now (that goes behind the theater) and appears to be mapped correctly. The old bit in front of the theater probably needs some tweaking but that also looks like it’s still in a state of change.
Roger that. I believe the theater should be done Fall(ish), so when that happens we can re-map the primary road around/in front of it then.
Let’s this keep as the primary thread for any mall-related issues. If there are any unlock requests pertaining to roads around the mall, we should link them here for awareness.
I went and paved some at the mall near the theater and Cabela’s. I haven’t touched anything on the map, waiting for feedback.
Based on what I drove around, the front of the theater is still a mess but the old mall road path is def gone except for the southern segment. Therefore I recommend just deleting these bits…

And straightening out this bit to join with the PLR going by Nordstroms
https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=usa&lon=-75.65159&lat=39.68117&layers=613&zoom=6&segments=62511241
As for Cabella’s, it’s main PLRs are shaped like a lower case m where the main entrance is the center of the m. The front of the building was successfully picked up by my pave as was the easternmost leg of the m. The center leg and left leg weren’t paved because I was snapping to the existing PLRs.
The paved road in front of the theaters isn’t really useful. It was me driving as close as I could to the theater on minor PLR paths and not main PLRs so I don’t recommend keeping that bit. Those roads will change before it opens.
Finally, I probably should have paved around back of Cabela’s. Didn’t think until after I left that service vehicles going back there may snap to a ramp and mess up the traffic data on there. I can do that later, but it’d be after Labor Day. I’m heading to Virginia in a bit.
Edit: Ah nice, I did a UR after paving and see the GPS trace on the report is more useful than the paving was!
Poncewattle–nice job! Everything is set at level 1, so go ahead and modify away. What you’ve paved (and from your UR) seems to jive with my memory of the new roads, so please go ahead and update the “main” roadways.
Make sure to set the primary drive path for the loop and cut throughs to street, and everything else at parking lot. Post here when you’re done so we can all take a look.
Great!
I am following up on several URs from 1/7 and 95 that seem to have to do with all the new ramps.
I will try to distill the ones that actually make sense, and then will ask if there is anything to be done to improve the wazing experience.
These ramps and roads should all be done by the end of the calendar year, and it looks like Waze will be up-to-date when that happens.
Just a note–the majority of the URs on the I-95N (I-495/I-295) ramps are because users are reporting “incorrect directions” because Waze routes them on the ‘wrong ramp’.
Example:
User is navigating to a location just over the Delaware Memorial Bridge in NJ. The ‘correct’ navigation direction from SR-1 N would be to take Exit 165C, then stay to the right for I-295N. However, in most cases, Waze tends to favor the I-495 ramp for Wilmington. While not necessarily ‘wrong’, it does not jive with the user’s intended destination.
As far as I know, there is no real fix for this–we can’t employ the usual “drag the ramp end point to the correct interstate segment” as the I-495 segment is VERY far away from the ramp, and would be incorrect.
I file this under the “your GPS shouldn’t be the end all be all” and that common sense should take precedence here. Worst case, it dumps you in the left lane of I-95N, and you have a couple miles to move 4 lanes over.
Ok, done. Hope you like it! Feel free to tweak it. I’ll be on the road for several hours tonight so won’t be online to get any more edits in before a potential tile update later. I did change the inner mall road to PLR and removed the street name while I straightened it out.

(Feels a bit funny drawing on top of trees!)
ps, Chrome v37 update makes this a lot harder
(there’s a thread about how it broke WME on the editor forum … sigh)
Looks pretty good. We are missing the primary road that (will) run by the movie theater, but that will come later. I tweaked it a bit, and connected the inner PLR to the Cabela’s main entrance road, since it intersects there.
P.S. I thought I was going crazy. Need to roll back that update…blargh
This has recently stopped giving an instruction to “keep left to Road A”
https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=usa&lon=-75.65029&lat=39.67275&layers=965&zoom=6&segments=80922021
I believe it’s related to this:
https://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=108887
Now I am not 100% positive I am right. But I would bet money when we first set up that new ramp I tested all scenarios. It is at least saying to keep right for the SR-1 ramp. Problem is, the keep left instruction is pretty much needed here because there’s a dotted line and a yield across the roadway to get to Road A proper there.
/still digesting the change in that message…
Not sure if this warrants posting in that thread as a case for them to look at. I’ll leave that up to someone above my paygrade
If there is no name on a ramp it is supposed to flow through from further up stream. For example, when going down Center Blvd it definitely says Turn Right on Road A even though there’s no name on that ramp.
So perhaps the fix to make it say keep left for Road A is to actually label “To Road A” on that ramp segment?
(this has nothing to do with the closure, btw, which is still in effect for what it’s worth… and looks like it’s nowhere near being done either)
