There’s a 5 month full road closure next to my house but I can’t edit the map as I’m only level 1, so if someone could help me, that’d be fantastic.

PLEASE NOTE - only a very short 50m section of this road is closed - the rest is fully open. The stretch between the co-ordinates below are closed.
East end of the closure - 51°22’37.5"N 2°33’30.7"W
West end of the closure - 51°22’33.5"N 2°33’39.2"W
Reason: Shoring up weak banks
Closure start date: 17.10.16
Closure end date: 17.03.17
Please note that the construction company has stated that the road might open for 2 weeks around Christmas but they won’t give an exact date.

OK, the first thing I’ve done is split the original road segment into three, so that we can close just the correct section.
Unfortunately this means that we want to close a newly-created road segment, and Waze won’t let us input a proper closure until the next “international tile update”. 
What I can do, and have done, is input a “time based restriction”. This has pretty much the same effect, except that the closure doesn’t show on the app map. Routing will however still avoid it, which is the main objective.
After the next tile update, I’ll come back and delete the restriction and replace it with a closure.
This road is not locked, so as a level 1 editor you can update it. The reason you couldn’t put in a “closure” is that closures are restricted to level 3 and above, even for unlocked roads. And once the road has a closure in force, nobody can edit it without first removing the closure.
You can however still edit a road with a “restriction”. Which is handy, as it gives you the opportunity to check that I’ve got the “restricted” segment exactly right. And move the start and end points of it if I haven’t. Just click on the node between the segments and move it as required.

However it doesn’t seem to work - Waze keep on trying to route me through the closure despite you putting in the restriction. Should I try to put in the restriction myself?
The section split isn’t quite exactly right but it’s close enough.

Ah, yes, I overlooked something.
Restrictions, being an edit, don’t take effect until after a tile update.
Closures, which are not edits (they go on a different database), are immediate - but if you do an edit you can’t put in a closure until after a tile update (so that the databases get back in line).
So the restriction won’t take place until the next tile update (every day when things are working, but there seems to be a delay at the moment), when I’ll be able to replace the restriction with a closure anyway. <I’d put a head-banging icon here if I could find one>
Restriction should have taken effect this morning.
I’ve now replaced it with a closure, which you should be able to see on the app. Have I closed the right bit?
