Hi Sam. I’ve moved this topic to the correct location, the Editor Requests sub-forum.
It looks like you’ve set some restrictions on the segments - and I can understand why you thought they hadn’t saved. The Editor seems to be misbehaving somewhat: when I added a Real Time Closure to some of the segments, the restrictions appeared. When I refreshed the map they disappeared again. In the end, I had to create a closure, remove the closure, delete the restrictions then add the closure again. :roll:
OK, so the best way to close a road is with a Real-Time Closure. Unfortunately (for you) these can only be added by L3+ editors, so the normal procedure would be to make a request for that. RTCs have several advantages over segment restrictions:
- RTCs take effect immediately. Segment restrictions won’t take effect until a map update (normally a couple of days) and any change faces a similar delay
- RTCs give more flexibility with start/end times. If you want a closure to start at 8am on date 1 and end at 6pm on date 2, you would need three restrictions - one for date 1, one for date 2 and one for all the days in between
- RTCs are visible in the app as a dashed red/white line, making it obvious a road is closed. Restrictions are not visible
So you gave me a link for 3 segments. The news article says that residents will be allowed access, although there will be no through-routing. Since the southernmost segment has some houses on it, I didn’t close that. I also didn’t close the northenmost segment: this is due to the one disadvantage of RTCs: they actually apply to updated segments on the live map, not segments in the editor. If you edit a segment in the editor it’s possible it may not be closeable until an update. It looks like you split it to add a segment of Parking Lot Road, so I can’t close it!
I’ve closed the bridge segment in the middle. That will accomplish the main aim - stopping through routing. I’ll set up a reminder for the next map update and come back and close the northenmost segment as well. :mrgreen:
