I was so excited to see this project, I’ve always dreamed of a project where people collaborate on creating maps, especially for my country Syria where there is no maps available.
I started using Waze and I wanted to start helping building maps for my country.
But I don’t know where to start from! Should I map using the client on my mobile first then go to http://world.waze.com/cartouche/ ?
I’d like to say you need to go and get area/country manager rights from alpha@waze.com. Simply request as such. Then see the Technical/Wiki/Forum support under Support. But the recommended practice is to Map your Freeway’s and Highway’s first and then the smaller, but major Primary roads, etc… Good luck.
That’s the way it starts, a blank map (except some parts of the world where base maps are provided). When users drive along roads while having waze active these tracks will be uploaded to waze. Later the users can edit the tracked streets in the web editor (Cartouche) and then the roads will appear in the live map and downloaded by the waze client for further use.
Just start wazing and giving your country a map ;)…
Thanks for the replies. I’ve been fiddling with Waze for about a week now and I’m learning a lot!
Indeed now the Satellite view shows (I tried “Try next aerial option” from View Panel), and my roads which I recorded started showing on the Web Editor.
I will try to contact the alpha team and see what I can do.
