Hi Editors,

I’ll appreciate your help with a map update.

Reason: Wouldn’t it be best to map this car park as restricted based off the sign in these more up to date street view image? I think these distinct customer-only signs were added in recent years hence why they can’t be spotted within this car park on 2017 GSV imagesScreenshot 2023-03-11 141346.pngWhatsApp Image 2023-03-11 at 14.24.18.jpg

Thank you in advance,

The distinction between public and restricted is easy to make on paper, in reality it’s a little more difficult when it comes to Waze. The reasons I set this to public are;

  • Waze won’t suggest restricted car parks to users when the near this shopping park, which just looks silly in the app
  • This is not a single business but a shopping area (had this been a single business then restricted may be more appropriate)
  • Users are still responsible for making the final choice to follow any signs and limits

As Waze failed to follow through with the Parking Project and simply abandoned it, we are stuck with half finished tools to use on the map and feature mechanics within the app.

Our Wazeopedia guidance was written expecting this Project to go through Phase 2 & 3, and therefore our policy needs reviewing and updating…

It’s a shame the parking project didn’t work out. Based off of this should we set car parks we would want to show up on the user end as ‘public’ where it would be obvious what car park restrictions apply?

For example, where there could be a staff car park for people driving into work and a customer car park for people going to the same business as a customer, would it be appropriate to set both as public and trust the user to choose the relevant car park?

Note: I might reach L2 editor soon and I’m not sure I’ll still have the luxury of my places being reviewed and corrected before they go live on the map (place update requests). So I’m asking questions to avoid any howlers in the future

Oddly this ties in with the EV project a little, We run the risk at the moment of offering EV’s as public but the car park they sit in as restricted. My assumption is when the EV project is coming to a close we may have to return to car parks to tweak things. A lot I have come across are mapped OK. It’s mostly about the user experience - you want to park what do you need to know (size of the car park, what it offers (Certain spots etc) how to pay and what to pay with). Unless it’s free! :p!
