Here’s another waffling page I’ve chucked together for the wiki, based on the forum post and the existing wiki info I thought there was enough to create a separate page.

Car Parks

I intend to add a couple of example images as I know it is currently a lot of text. As always any suggestions or additions are welcomed.

I am also aware that the existing wiki info needs to be corrected. My thoughts would be to reduce it down with a link to ‘read further’ to the new page.

Car Parks
For an in-depth guide to mapping car parks refer to the Car Parks page.

• All car parks can now be mapped as the WME provides the ability to distinguish between Public, Restricted, & Private car parks.
• Name them with their full name, e.g. Queen Street Car Park. Do NOT use [P] prefix
• If a private car park, start with company name, e.g. NCP Tanner Row Car Park
• Car parks should be mapped to edge of drivable tarmac

Parking Roads

• Draw in the minimum required Parking Roads to allow navigation in and out of the car park
• Do NOT draw every single row within the car park - these will be deleted!
• Parking roads should NOT be named, as it looks better to have a label on the landmark
• Parking roads should NOT be marked as a “Toll Road”
• Park and Ride places should also include Bus Station category
  Lay-bys should not be marked with a landmark, but should instead be mapped in accordance with the How to classify and name roads Wiki Page.

Hi,

This might be quite obvious but just want to calrify a few things.

1. no roadside pay and display should be listed, even if it’s the main car park for small villages.
2. When the car park is for a single supermarket should we now be mapping it as restricted, previously I always thought we didn’t. If that has changed do restricted car parks show up in searches, are we just duplicating results?
3. Assuming there is a restircted car park are we supposed to be linking it to the shop/office it’s connected to?

Firstly this topic is really for discussing improvements to the wiki page, the actual Car Park topic should be used to parking questions, however;

At this time no we don’t map it, this may change in future.

Now that we can mark a car park as restricted, yes, supermarket car parks can be mapped. They do show up in the search as you type but not always in the ‘more results’ section. Car parks don’t need to be redrawn, simply change the car park type in the info panel when the car park is selected.

We can’t currently link car parks to places within Waze, they only way is to correctly name the car park so it is obvious it belongs to that business. It is possible for L3 editor to link Google places to those in Waze but this is more for consistent navigation and applies to the business more than the car park.

Is it worth adding guidelines or mentioning multi story car parks and underground car parks?

Underground car parks are mentioned near the start. Didn’t think there was anything special about multi story car parks, what needs clarifying?

Maybe it doesn’t… I was just thinking that when I first started editing I wasn’t too sure if you should map the PLRs between the entry and exit points if they are inside the building hidden from the sat images.
