Culture Chair

Culture Chair is a community role introduced in August 2023 focused on fostering engagement and inclusion within their local community.

Overview

  • A highly social, outgoing individual with great motivational skills, who possesses the ability to inspire and encourage.
  • Planning and coordinating outreach events, such as Waze Cafés & Meetups
  • Assist Mentors & Mentor Coordinators by overseeing the welcoming of new members and engaging with current ones

How will Culture Chairs be selected?

Coordinators and Staff Community Managers should discuss and decide who will be their community’s Culture Chairs (CC) based on their skills to motivate and empower the community. A CC should not be an existing Coordinator, but a great engager and motivator. There can be multiple CCs per region based on need.

What benefits does this role entail?

Leveraging their interpersonal skills, CCs contribute to their local Waze community’s continued growth and development and help foster successful engagement.

When are Culture Chairs selected?

CCs will be selected twice a year. This does not necessarily mean CCs are replaced twice per year; however, CCs should be reviewed and changed or kept in place at least twice annually.

What are the responsibilities?

The main responsibility is to foster engagement and inclusion within the local community, focusing on retention of both existing and new editors. Depending on the local community’s needs, this will be accomplished via different methods, like welcoming new editors to the community and funneling them into mentoring, planning Waze Cafés, and assisting with Meetup planning. To encourage accountability and creativity, the CCs are expected to share and discuss ideas openly with other CCs.

Why is the Culture Chair important?

The long-term health of the community depends on engaged and active members. The editor community makes Waze unique. Maintaining a vibrant and growing community is essential for the continued success of Waze. It is the “secret sauce”.

Can I bring ideas to my region’s CC?

Absolutely! We welcome ideas from our community members! It could be a Cafe suggestion, an improvement in the new editor welcome flow, or something you’d like to see at Meetup. We can’t guarantee implementation, but we are open to your ideas.
