I wanted an alternative to Google maps for those times when it isn’t functioning correctly, and I wrongly thought Waze would have public transit options. I got the app, and signed up using my Google account. It turns out Waze has no public transit info at all, so it’s a total waste for me (I really should have checked this first, so my bad). Thus, I deleted the app and want to delete my account. Haven’t even used the app for anything.
But when I try to go through the “delete my account” process on the website (Settings > Delete your account), it doesn’t offer a means to do this for my situation because of using my Google account to register and log in. It only allows you to input “username” and “password”. Well, my username is my email address and the password is a hidden key between Waze and Google. I even try inputting my email address and password for Google (which I really shouldn’t do), but it just reacts with “Invalid username or password”.
Effectively, poor site design (or maybe deliberately obstructive design) had made it impossible for me to delete my account. Any solutions?
I very clearly stated that I have attempted to do exactly as described in that link and that the site’s own design prevents me from doing it as described. Did you read my post in full?
And for what it’s worth, I also tried to change my password so I could alter my account info to such a state as to use the default deletion process. This too is impossible because it requires a non-existent password (again, having signed up/in with my google account, I don’t have a password, but there is a key between Waze and Google that I cannot access/see/use in any way).
After readimg it again twice, I still don’t see where you clearly stated that.
if it doesn’t work, please contact the Waze support; users of a community forum cannot delete your account anyway.
Okay, that’s my bad. I tried your link, there were some shenanigans, and I ended up on the other support tab where the “delete my account” instructions are, apparently mistakenly thinking you’d linked me there; I was wrong and I apologize for my tone.
That said, I’ve deleted the app from my phone, and am trying to delete the account, so using the app to do things isn’t the process I’m trying to go through, though perhaps I should reconsider. I understand that users can’t fix my account. I was looking to see if the community had experience with the issue and could offer a complete solution.
In case others have a similar problem, it looks as if re-installing the Waze app and using the “Delete account” option in the app’s settings there is the only way for users who sign up with Google to delete their Waze accounts.
It seems needlessly belabored–deleting it via the website should still be viable.
