At the moment, Canadian Champs have access to the responses to approve closures. This access may be extended to Rank 4s or AMs at a later date.
To view the current list of closures, you can go here:
This form allows for complete (or directional, i.e. A->B only) closures to be reported. Partial closures (i.e. one of two lanes in a direction) should not be reported.
The closure will be visible in the app (see attachment) and on the livemap, in addition to avoiding routing through the segment.
This method is preferred over adding restrictions – it is nearly immediate (processed several times per day by Waze staff), and does not rely on a tile rebuild. It also provides the visual closure information.
I noticed that there were Farmer’s Market & Festival closures on our spreadsheet. I added a few from Brampton & Toronto that previously had road restriction on them.
For some events (i.e. parades) where the nodes/junctions are also closed, should we include the cross streets as a new entry or write it in the comments?
The nodes is for when you have one-direction-only closures.
If you have a situation like you describe, include the segments adjacent to the closed street in the same permalink. There’s no need for separate entries.
When do we want to take the UR off the map for road works? Is the closure automatically finished at the given time, and then we take the UR off, or are there other things we need to do?
doctorkb - Why not removing the UR as soon as the closure was added to the sheet?
Some closures are longer time and keeping the UR open will clutter the WME environment.
Beside that , we should be trusting that system to start and end events as entered.
I know it is new and exciting to check all the closures on the LiveMap, but once we get this fully deployed, I’m assuming it will be massive amount of work to check that each entry is indeed showing.
It’s actually about remembering to unlock it when it’s done… There’s no indication of the closure in WME and without the UR, a person could either unlock or modify the segment so as to break the closure.
Also, the UR clutter can be greatly reduced with the URO+ script. It will give special icons to the [ROADWORKS] tagged URs, as well as allow you to hide them when you need to.
