[DEPRECATED] Construction (and other scheduled) Closures

Hi All.

I like this system.

What would cause the Waze client to ignore one of these road closures?

Please see the UR - https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=5&lat=43.663354&lon=-79.390505&mapUpdateRequest=3785983&env=usa

Based on the directions provided, the client looks like it tried to route onto a (documented) road closure.

Wellesley street is closed westbound from Yonge to Hart House Circle (just past Queens Park)

I can also see this in the August tab (sheet?) of the Google Docs file, row 744

Thanks.

Hello cptnformat,

Thank you for point his out.
Apparently the closure applied for Wellesley St W was for EB traffic, instead of WB.
The information in this sheet - http://www1.toronto.ca/City%20Of%20Toronto/Engineering%20and%20Construction%20Services/Construction%20Information%20and%20Notices/Ward%2020/queens-prk_resurfacing_const-not_july4-14.pdf shows that in the EB direction there is one lane open and indeed all WB lanes are closed.
I applied this change to the closure sheet and it will take up to 24 hours to reflect in the client.

You can provide this update to the reporter on the UR you have handled.

Cheers,
HM.

Decent script that highlights closed roads.

Thanks manoeuvre. Very useful.

hi,

i can’t use the from ATM but these roads are under construction for the next 2 years

the 2 ramps “exit #60 north and south bound” are closed each night “i’m looking for a confirmation”
should come in this week

I’m following the weekly posts at http://pontchamplainbridge.ca/en/

I used the old-style restrictions for the segments that close every night between 22h00 and 5h00 because that way I don’t have to add 60 closures for two months.

The downside to old-style restrictions is that they don’t show visibly on the map.

If you fill out the first line (i.e. time, permalink, description), I can turn that into 60 entries without too much difficulty, assuming it is every night for the same hours.

When you select a cell, there is a small box on the lower left hand side; if you drag it down it will automatically add +1 days.

I submitted a closure for Calgary just a moment ago and managed to mix up two different closures (name from one, dates from another, permalink from the first, etc). The one in which the comments say something like “there will be more using this same closure URL” can be discarded. Apologies!

manoeuvre - I see you thanked Jay91150. Did you took care of this in the closure sheet?

HM.

Yes, taken care of.

Can anyone see a problem with #821 in the October closure sheet? I submitted it and #822 based on nearby URs. The latter took effect but #821 didn’t. #821 is intended to be a southbound only closure so I added the junction node IDs to the request.

Very strange, I have added a comment to line 821 reporting the closure has not been applied.

The DVP in Toronto was submitted for closure this weekend and as far as I can tell it’s been closed. I’ve seen about 5 URs now about being directed there during the closure. I suggested to restart app and clear the cache and the ones that replied said it worked. This one in the permalink though says it was closed for him last night but not this morning. Restarting fixed the problem.

Just wondering if people have been experiencing problems like this with closures.

Similar issue with w/b Wellesley closure; it’s been in place since August, but Waze appears to have given the reporter a route through the closed road.

You are suggesting users to do the right thing, by asking them to refresh their App data.
It’s either a bug by Waze not to refresh the data automatically for the users going on those tiles, or that the users are using not the latest version of Waze.

Cheers,
HM.

I confirmed with the user that they have the latest version. They also reported to me that they saw barricades on Saturday night (which is good) but didn’t see them on Sunday morning. Their routing was aware of the closure on Saturday but then lost it on Sunday.

Another bit I recently discovered.

When you ask for a route, Waze activates and pulls from the routing server the fastest/shortest path from historical segment data.

THEN it contacts a different server to pull any live traffic data and closures.

Sometimes it may error and doesn’t pull the closure data correctly.

I discovered this when I had a UR that showed the driver was clearly routed down a ramp to a freeway that was closed and had been for several weeks.

It is extremely rare, but not unheard of…

Hopefully with the new closures system some of those errors won’t be a problem.

With the new WME version, are we still using this system to request the closure, or a general forum post?

EDIT: And are we still posting a UR at the location?

Yes the sheets now have an option where you can select uploaded with beta editor. I personally only use it for closures that are happening on the same day. If the closure starts tomorrow or if it’s submitted by another editor, then I’ll use the sheet.

I personally feel more comfortable using the sheet and have Waze GeoOps Team adding the closure. The WME Closure seems buggy at times, and not 100% reliable.

We should still post a UR at the location. This will allow for better communication with editors regarding updates to the closure. Whether it’s getting extended, ending earlier, changed to a week-day closure?
