[DEPRECATED] Construction (and other scheduled) Closures

OK, so for us lower editors there is not really a change at all other than being able to see it’s active directly from WME.

Thanks,
Kayos

I would also STRONGLY suggest that IF a closure gets extended, The original ‘[CLOSURE] UR’ be REPLACED with a new one, with the new ending time in it.
I find it annoying and time consuming to need to open one that, by the original text, has expired, only to find that it has been extended.

For short closures (1 or 2 days) on minor streets I’ve tended not to have the UR at all. For longer ones I don’t put dates on the UR, just an explanation as to the closure. All of the other information is on the closures sheet.

Now that closures are live in the production WME, the UR are less needed. Some may still be preferred. But hopefully we will be getting more notes options on the closures soon.

We can now grant closure access to lower ranked editors. Kayos: if you can’t add/edit closures in wme, let me know and I’ll make sure you get access.

DoctorKB - Did you have the rank restriction lowered to a certain rank in Canada? Or are you having it granted on a user by user basis?

We haven’t changed it from Waze’s standard… Not sure if that is 3,4 or 5. All I read was that it is “sufficiently high”.

We can (and I plan to) grant user by user access to certain areas (like an AM area, but only for closures).

Ah ok. Thanks. Didn’t know that you could grant areas.

Waze standard is 5.

OK, I can’t edit closures all of the long term closures in the GVA are not shown as closed. Check line 88 on the February tab as an example. Manouevre had locked this segment to L5 so I wouldn’t be able to change it anyway, but there are a few other segments with long term closures that are not closed. I’m not sure when the closures were lost, perhaps on the WME update, I’ve not checked closures in a while…

Kayos

FYI - I have some closures that don’t always have the symbol in the WME. Reloading the webpage will have them show.

The closures are not showing in WME or livemap.

For problems with closures, I can’t stress enough that you must please ‘Insert Comment’ on Line 88 Feb Closure Tab and write that the closure is not appearing on the live map/WME.

Comments get flagged and Waze Geo Ops Team will immediately investigate and re-add the closure if necessary.

Writing it in these threads, it’ll simply get lost and go unaddressed.

Waze Closures in general are very buggy, I’ve seen quite a few randomly disappear in the Greater Toronto Area. There shouldn’t be an expectation that they will work all the time. That’s why I prefer to have the Geo Ops Team add them vs. manually adding them in the WME. It seems more reliable, but i’m also having issues with the ones they’re adding as well.

I will lower the lock to L3. The most common reason why closures disappear is that the segment have been edited/modified/deleted/changed. Locks were raised to protect them, but now they’re not 100% necessary but if the closure does disappear then another editor could accidentally change the segment.

Thanks and I’ll add the comment, I didn’t know that was a way of dealing with the issues. I’ll find the other ones that have disappeared and comment on those also.

Thanks
Kayos

Great response from the waze team in resolving those issues with closures disappearing, but I still don’t have access to modify closures directly via WME. I have found one where there is an issue, but as it’s not on the closures sheet, how do we have it modified?

This segment should currently be closed, but as the opening date has been entered incorrectly, it does not show as closed. Can I please have this rectified?

Thanks,
Kayos

The 1969-12-31 are all client closures; if you go into your client and report a road closure that’s how they’re identified: https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/How_to_Report#Closure

Client closures are difficult to understand; they are usually isolated to the user’s client and only propagated depending on the number of closure reports and the user’s rank/karma.

Client closures are allegedly lifted as soon as the first vehicles goes through the closed segment. The WME & Google Sheet closures lift when there is more than 50% of normal traffic going through the closed segment. According to the U.S. Champs this script is run every 15 minutes. So lets say on average 10 drivers go through the closed segment. If 6 drivers go through it, the closure will get lifted but it gets checked every 15 minutes so there’s a possibility it will re-close due to inactivity.

The Beta WME provides us a little more details as to who created/updated the closure; according to ohad this should be getting pushed to the production WME in the next week.

If the road is really closed, you can submit details in the closure form. We can easily remove the wazer-reported closure and add a hard one.

Looking through this thread. Unsure what, in the end, someone at my level (2) should do in the case of an early reopening (see here), which was reopened this morning as the construction project completed early.

Hi,

Go onto the google sheets file and add a note to the closure, it gets acted on pretty quickly.

Is there a way to check pending requests? I submitted a closure 4 days back and I don’t see it in the map or the closure sheet.

Should be filed under “Form Responses” the moment you submit it. If the last three columns are empty (Approved/Entered on Upload Sheet/Reviewed By), it’s still pending processing by a champ.

Can we please remove the following?

• For daily/nightly closures, add entry for each day

It is enough to simply write that it’s a daily/nightly/weekend closure in the form’s comment section. There is no need to add a new entry for each day.
