Do we have a strange issue with routing?

I’ve noticed a few reports over the last few days that all appear to be demonstrating a weird issue with routing whereby Waze appears to be momentarily routing users off the main road via a laybe/juction etc before routing them back.

These are the 3 I’ve noticed around me:

Anyone else seen this? Do we have an issue with routing here? They all look suspiciously similar to me…
Any senior editors want to have a look and comment?

Thanks

You could say this is Waze being a little too clever for its own good… or you may just call it bad mapping by an editor… (not pointing any fingers)

You should be able to fix the 1st by changing the layby segments to Parking Lot Roads. This might be a quirk where the little used layby has a quicker through time than the main road and as they are so close when people ignore the suggested route like your reporter Waze attributes their data to the layby and a vicious circle ensues.

Fix the 2nd by disabling the right turn from the short slip road, no one would ever make the suggested route, if they leave the main road into Moorgate they should turn left only.

And for the 3rd, disabling the right turn again as the short cut through road is intended for those coming out of Melbourne St to get over to the far road.
Personally, on a side note I’d also join this PLR to the short cross segment (making a x-road junction) and then you can disable the left turn form the A6000 into the short cross segment preventing the opposite route to the one shown in the report.

Hi Chris

Thanks for the helpful reply

I’ve done 1 and 2, and I think Dave (PhantomFlanFlinger) may be picking up the 3rd as he’s responded to the reporter.
Quick question though on your additional suggestions to 3 though. You have suggested created a x-road junction and then disabling the left turn. Wouldn’t this cause an issue for drivers coming out of the PLR and then wanting to cross over to Melbourne St. Hopefully this link will have the right segments highlighted to demonstrate my query:

Thanks

Dave may have replied to the UR but nothing has changed on the map, yet… you still have time to save the day and dazzle the crowd

If you moved the PLR then they could go straight onto the short cross segment, looking at StreetView it isn’t exactly a right turn, left turn for them. The disabled turn is only for those on the A600.

Bad example pic below as you can’t save in Practice Mode.

Thanks Chris

I’ve had a quick chat with Dave via PM and he’s happy for me to pick this up, so I’ve made the changes. Do you want to take a quick look, make sure I’ve got it ok?

Thanks again for you advice

Looks a lot better to me.

Did you intend to restrict the ‘straight on’ into the PLR :?: If not, the only issue I can find

Yes, I did intend to restrict the straight on’ into the PLR as it’s not really a straight on going by the road geometry, the road markings and my local knowledge

Thanks for all your help
