Hi All,
There is a UR here that a u-turn was expected on the A1 near Hendon. The u-turn is not restricted by turn restrictions but I seems to remember reading that things like short sections, etc. allow / prevent u-turns. Please can someone explain when a dual carriageway like this will generate u-turns and when it won’t.
I know this junction as I pass it often and the requestor is correct, one is allowed and able to perform a u-turn here. IIRC, the official position is that if a turn is allowed, even if not advisable, we map it as allowed.
Thanks,
David
The thing to bear in mind here is that there are no signs that a quick look on GSV showed up to prohibit a U-Turn here, however, that DOES NOT Make it a safe manoeuvre.
I would not be happy allowing Waze to direct all and sundry to do a U turn here unless there were signs directing drivers to do so.
It might be worth sending a PM to superfraggle who edited the junction just over a week ago.
U-turns here are restricted because the link segment is less than 15m long and has no name. (Unless this has changed in recent routing server changes)
IIRC - I added a name, but then changed my mind, as we do try and avoid the uturns. Was meant to come back it, but easy to lose track around the other hundred UR’s in London
