Editor Rank Reset to Level 1

Standard bug
Steps to reproduce this issue:
Logged in for the first time in a month or so, and my level has dropped from 3 to 1.

I read about issues from a last month with incorrect display. I attempted to edit an L2 segment and was not permitted.

This may not be a bug. There is a regular clean up of inactive editors that you may have been included in. If this is the case, start editing. Promotion back to 3 should be automatic. Otherwise, check with the local leadership for GLR for more information.

Thank you for clarifying. I suppose I have a few comments.

1. Editor level was earned based on skills that don’t just go away because life gets busy and there is less time to contribute. Most of the time I would log in only when I found an issue while driving.
2. Dropping to L1 makes it much harder to contribute in any meaningful way. I won’t be able to fix most of the issues that I see on the map.
3. I always understood the level system as a way to protect the map harmful changes - intentional or unintentional. Dropping someone’s level doesn’t make the map safer from such things, so what’s the point?

Thank you for sharing your comments. We appreciate you getting back to editing and truly appreciate your contributions.

Your editing skills are valuable and don’t go away, but Waze tools and local mapping standards evolve constantly. Level resets due to inactivity are necessary safeguards to ensure editors are up-to-date with current guidelines—this is by no means a reflection of your editing ability.

I have asked the team, and they suggested reaching out to your local Community Leadership or Staff Community Manager to request a level-up.

Meanwhile, please take a look at the latest community guidelines and WME updates on the forum to catch up on any recent changes.

As was mentioned, editing tools change. This has been particularly true over the last couple of years. With the decrease in rank, you’re more likely to reach out and get engaged with the local editing community to learn more about these changes. And as I said, it likely won’t take many edits to regain your rank.

I did ping @ldriveskier as one of the coordinators for your region so she is aware of your situation. You’re already in the GLR Discord, so I recommend reaching out there for help.
