Elgin false reports (Leicester area)

Hello Waze community,

This is my first post so please forgive me if I’m going about this wrong, I have taken the time to search the forum for previous threads of a similar nature, searching for such things as ‘report user’. I found a previous thread titled “ELGIN Hazard reports [Feedback]” started by Kkervinjones Tue Dec 13, 2016 9:58 am but I’m unable to add further posts to this thread as it is locked.

Upon reading this previous thread it seems that Elgin is not a real user, it is a database from an external source. The ‘user’ Elgin is reporting multiple accidents along the same route for the last few mornings, I keep removing the reports on my journey but it is somewhat frustrating and misleading to other users. There is heavy traffic but not accidents.

The stretch of road in question is from A46 (W) Leicester Western Bypass (Anstey junction) to M1 Southbound J21 exit. On average there are three accident reports each morning between 8am and 10am at random points along this stretch of road along the A46 and M1 (tends to be more on the A46 and sliproad on to the M1).

Is there a way for this to be resolved and stop the reports showing from Elgin?

Hi & welcome to the forum,

You are correct in the fact ELGIN (Electronic Local Government Information Network) is not a user but an feed automatically imported from Councils, Utility companies & Highways Agencies. Generally the reports of accidents don’t linger too long in Waze and don’t cause an issue, but clearly you’ve found some that do.

We do have issues with roadwork alerts from ELGIN staying for much longer than necessary and we have a report form to have these removed, I’m not 100% sure this is the correct way to remove your accident alerts but as they are identical notices and us editors have no other way to influence them you can try it.

Roadworks Removal Request [Form]

Thanks for your reply Chris, if I see them popping up on my commute next week I’ll have a look at completing the link/form provided.

Elgin has reported the same accident on the A453/M1 junction every day last week.
